I recently recorded a 1 hour mix for Diamondstein's brilliant Night Shift NTS mix series which was aired on October 25th. Inspired by the title and concept, I wanted to build a small narrative, from the moment one walks home from work after their night shift, to slowly being pulled down the rabbit hole, in and of consciousness :)

It was a pleasure to dig deep and dive into more ambient d&b, ambient techno vibes, so don’t expect anything banging, though I hope you enjoy the trip 🖤

“This mix showcases forthcoming music from myself, UVB-76 and The Stone Tapes,” says Bournemouth based producer Jason Luxton aka Overlook. Luxton has released his stripped back, ominous productions via various European drum ’n’ bass and techno labels, but the majority of his output has been presented by the Bristol based UVB-76 imprint, founded by Gremlinz and producer trio Ruffhouse in 2015. Beyond the music of Overlook, the label-cum-collective’s back catalogue has a cohesive sound, described by Ruffhouse member Nick Callaghan as having a “thick atmosphere” and a “deepness”, which matches a strong and eerie visual identity.

The Stone Tapes is one of several UVB sub labels and is co-run by Luxton. Speaking to Louis Pattison in The Wire 424, he describes it as being concerned with sound as “audio apparitions”, inspired by ghost stories and building on the idea of fleetingness or space within a track, leaving room for uncanny apparitions of the imagination.
