Ramon Tapia is a guarantor for hot nights in international clubs. This is reflected in his work as a musician. He doesn’t feel any bondage to genres. He delivers tracks from house to techno - essence: it has to be a dancefloor rocker! And that is what he made for My Favourite Freaks Music with the name Split Second EP. A dark techno EP appropriate to the cold season.

The title track Split Second starts with housy beatloops and high strings, which gets the right groove with the rolling main theme, a constantly moving and filtered rave bass pad. He build up the beat in combination with vocal stabs, until - oh yes! up to the climax! You can’t escape the sound!  

Ramons second track Warehouse is a bit more Techno. Industrial percussion sounds shape the track from beginning to end. A fast playing bassline is for the groove, different synth sounds, which alternate with more aggressive vocal cuts, are for the overall mood of the song. The break down cuts the main groove and brings everything down to level zero, but with ecstatic drum rolls he pushes the track to another explosion.

Warehouse is remixed by Wehbba. He exchanged the Warehouse beats with his own typical and shuffling groove. He inserted all sound elements skillfully into the new construct of his remix- a more Detroit-like mood is the result. Drum fills dominate the whole track, which is 100% a dancefloor killer!

M.in collaborates with Franz Alice Stern to work on an own interpretation of the original track Split second. 909 beats are the basis of the rave bass pad of the source track, which escalates again with a great hands up moment because of new bassline and a great synthesizer melody. It’s time to start the festival season!

Octopus Podcast 227 - Brennen Grey Guest Mix

Ramon Tapia drops his first solo outing for Truesoul with the classy ‘Manipulate’.

The recent outstanding form of Ramon Tapia has been too good to ignore for Adam Beyer. In December the Belgian dropped the powerful ‘Hexagon’ as part of the Truesoul V/A EP, and with Beyer’s attention on lock, follows up swiftly with the excellent ‘Manipulate’ EP.

The title track embodies the ethos of Truesoul to a tee; a crisp and groovy work that straddles the divide between house and techno, it’s a late-night burner that shines courtesy of a dark searing electro bassline and pin-sharp drum work that builds up to a deliciously nasty finish. Its accompaniment is ‘Adam and Eve’, a punchy peak-time cut elevated by an energetic vocal, atmospheric pad and energetic melody line that has it begging to be dropped during a euphoric festival moment.

The latest installment on Francesco Pico's Magnitude Recordings label brings us to Israel where we welcome Golan Zocher on board for a fresh sounding two tracker.

Golan emerged into the scene only two years ago, but by now he's praised for a solid output of both solo- and collaborative releases (mainly with Kamilo Sanclemente) on labels such as Future Sound Of Egypt, Perspectives Digital, Clubsonica, MNL, Particles and Modern Agenda to name a few.

If you've been following Magnitude Recordings ever since it's re-launch a couple of months ago, you'll agree that Golan's sound matches the label seamlessly. It truly feels like a match made in heaven.

Both 'Enter' and 'Sandman' are sure to gain support of the global progressive house scene with their immaculate production values and infectious dance floor appeal.

Another great addition to the ever so impressive Magnitude Recordings catalogue. Enjoy!

Golan Zocher - Sandman

Making his label debut, Andrea Cassino, the Italian artist's smooth, free flowing style melds well with elements from 'Black Lion'. Known for his journey-esque creations his interpretation once again meets that storytelling reverence he's so beloved for. Pulsating and energetic yet deep and fluid, it's a mix with charming rhythms and percussive drive. Wispy vocal motifs and gaseous waves meet as the piece strips down into a guitar like soundscape, making for a soulful centrepiece, before shifting energy into an exhilarating finale.

A Russian artist with a rapidly growing reputation, Izzet returns to Particles with the brand new "Summer Goodbye" including remixes from UK and Dutch artists.

Marking his first release on NewBorn Records in 2010, Izzet has gone on to feature for the likes of Clinique Recordings and Proton Limited before making his debut on Particles with "Shadows and Dust" as part of the "Winter 2018" compilation in January. A remix of Rafa'El's "Twin Flames" followed in June, before "Timer Set" saw an appearance on the "Summer 2018" compilation. Reprised here, the brand new "Summer Goodbye" ripples with smooth flowing melodic lines that permeate Izzet's work. Within a four/four framework that comprises punchy kick and subtle percussive groove, textured pads gently pulsate in wave live fashion while ethereal vocals and shimmering arpeggio glitter like jewels on a sun-kissed sea. Tinged with an air of melancholy, the title is aptly represented in sonic form as a beautiful chord progression evolves through the mid-point breakdown.

UK producer, Bluum, has had a 2018 to remember. Regular appearances on the Paul Thomas led FSOE UV after a February 2018 debut, "Glide" offered a taste of what was to come. A series of expertly crafted tracks followed, including "Rodea", "Kepler" and "Weyland", while a remix of Aly and Fila's "Rebirth" was magisterial. A quartet of appearances on the Visceral compilation series enhanced a growing reputation as 2019 sees a release on the all-conquering mau5trap. Hitting its stride with thumping beat and chunky percussive groove, the Bluum remix of "Summer Goodbye" takes Izzet's track and creates a wonderful new driving bassline gem that bristles with power and emotion. A collage of melodies evolves making intelligent use of original components while developing in a new and vibrant direction, before erupting in the third movement to demonstrate Bluum's growing stature and sparkling production technique.

Niels Schilder is another artist with a strong reputation within the underground dance arena through his Malbetrieb production moniker. Via his music for a collection of blue-chip labels that include Selador, ATLANT and Click Records, supported by the DJ elite of Eelke Kleijn, Robert Babicz and Patrice Baumel, Malbetrieb's analogue infused work continues to attract widespread attention. A May 2018 remix of Dousk's "French Sauce" represented a notable highlight amongst over a century of production credits and it is with delight that we welcome the Dutch artist to Particles with a typically impressive remix. Taking on "Timer Set", the Malbetrieb remix builds on the central melodic themes of Izzet's original by producing a brooding, delay-drenched "Dub Mix" that sees a stripped back rhythmic framework provide a solid foundation for a rippling arpeggio to wax and wane across the nine-minute offering. Simultaneously, subtle phrasing from the original creates a stunning new interpretation.

As Bluum and Malbetrieb provide the perfect antidote to winter gloom, Izzet's "Summer Goodbye" is a welcome new arrival.

Following his single ’There Is Peace Beyond’, which saw support from Lane 8, Dosem, and Edu Imbernon, prodigious producer Nox Vahn (FKA Fairchild) now releases his double-cut 'Brainwasher / Walking With Giants’.

A standout track of Above & Beyond’s recent warm up set at ABGT350, with its foreboding spoken word verses and incomparably dark builds, ‘Brainwasher’ is set to be a DJ staple this winter. Described as “an ode to dance music, partying, and clubbing as a form of escape from the Brainwashers” (i.e. one's daily distractions), Nox Vahn’s latest captures the emotion of late night warehouse raves and foggy memories.

Similarly imbued with his characteristically ominous sound design, ‘Walking With Giants’ sees tribal toms bounce against drones and vocal chops, further illustrating why the the American DJ has garnered support from some of the biggest names in the dance music industry; Sander Van Doorn, Jonas Rathsman, Paul Oakenfold and BBC Radio 1’s Pete Tong to name a few.

Nox Vahn - Walking With Giants

With a career spanning over 25 years, Quivver remains a true industry icon. The man who spent five years in DJ Mag’s Top 100, has mastered the art of staying relevant and is regarded by many as one world's finest electronic music producers.

This EP is the most important release from Univack in this 2020, this time with Quivver as the main artist with his Forest Moon, a stunning and gorgeous progressive track which shows the amazing capacity of Quivver to find an special harmony between all his sound layers, and equilibrating it with a perfect groove for  the dancefloor.

Dmitry Molosh, one of the most known progressive house artists of the lalest years, remodels the original by Quivver to get a version less emotive, but more minimalistic and percusive, that will give djs the possibility of play it in diferent parts of their set.

The Ep is completed with a remix by Integral Bread of a diferent original by Quiiver, "8 Bit Eclipse". The spanish artist prints his unique style,  with loads of elements from Techno and Progressive House, getting an elegant and solid version, perfect for the peakest moments of our sets.
