Having regularly played and partied together over the years, the 2020 lockdown enabled Dennis Cruz and Josh Butler to finally have the time to collaborate. Resulting in Ahora Todo Va, the first single from Dennis Cruz’s debut album, set for release on Crosstown Rebels this coming summer. UK favourites and label affiliates Gorgon City provide the remix.

If music can be used as medicine, then Ahora Todo Va will heal the darkest of days. Opening the track and setting the scene for what is to come, an excitable crowd can be heard lapping up the voice of an energetic performer. The duo make full use of a range of instruments, from the sophisticated piano keys, rhythm infused drums and increase of excitement throughout resulting in a triumphant crescendo. This is music to make you dance. Dennis explains that “it was so nice to collaborate with Josh on this one, we have shared many moments together. He sent me a tribal Latin idea that he was working on and I loved it, he then sent me the project and we started to work on it together. I’m so happy to release this on Crosstown Rebels”. Dripping in atmosphere, industry heavyweights Gorgon City are on remix duty and create a track reminiscent of the euphoric big stage shows.

At the forefront of the global house scene is Spanish DJ and producer Dennis Cruz, with a number of accolades under his belt. Gaining support across the board, Cruz has released on Solid Grooves, Moon Harbour and Hot Creations among others, and an ever-increasing list of Beatport #1’s resulting in him being one of the highest selling tech house artists. Since bursting onto the scene in 2013 with the acclaimed Got A Feeling, Josh Butler has been a prominent figure in the dance scene. Remixing the likes of Fatboy Slim, Carl Cox and Joris Voorn whilst also warming up for the multi-grammy award winning Nile Rodgers and Chic. Josh has released EPs on Rejected, Defected, Poker Flat, Kaoz Theory and more.

Rebirth opens up with cantering drums and flashes of synth that light up the groove. The bass booms and the whole track races forwards, taking you with it. Paulus sets off on big, wooden kick drums that are overlaid with fizzing synth energy and cosmic rays of light. Huge hi hats add scale and an epic breakdown is followed by a powerful drop. Evolve is first and is a big, bouncy acid techno cut with lighting synths and plenty of pent up energy to blow the crowd away. Last of all, Pandemonium ups the ante with swampy bass and synths bringing a dark and dystopian vibe as the hard edge drums bang the groove.

KNTXT signs hotly-tipped techno artist Indira Paganotto for a new EP that showcases her unique sound across four compelling tracks.

Indira's father was a DJ in the iconic Goa scene in India in the 90s, so she grew up surrounded by colourful, emotive techno and psytrance. She has brought that to her own DJ sets and productions ever since she moved to Madrid to pursue her career. Now Indira is coming out with her best EP to date.

“I got to know Indira Paganotto when we opened up for demo submissions earlier this year,'' says KNTXT label boss Charlotte de Witte. “She immediately caught my attention with her unique take on psy/techno music. It feels very good to have her on board and I'm curious to see what the future holds for her.”

Indira adds, "I understand music as a state of trance where each track develops a journey and a story. Himalaya EP is the reflection of everything I learned since my childhood until today, the heritage and passion for Psytrance, the experiences in India, the connection with nature, as well as the feeling of freedom and strength like the gallop of a horse, the synths of Goa music, the love and the truth, which is what fills my life. Thank you Charlotte for understanding my language in such a true way. Ours is a real connection in such a sincere mental embrace, and I am proud to be part of your KNTXT family and to be able to show everyone who I am."

The EP´s opening track, 'Takeshi', is a slick techno roller that is rippled with psychedelic melodies and bright acid lines. They bleep and squeak up top to create a hypnotic effect as the drums march on. 'Sultans Of Mountains' contains intense psychedelic synths waning about the mix. The drums are stripped back and urgent, and crashing hits and smart filters bring real tension as this one unfolds in an arresting fashion.

On the other hand, 'Himalaya' has a deep and sleek techno atmosphere where astral pads and heavenly vocal coos make for a cinematic sound that will cast a real spell on the crowd. Last, but certainly not least we have the edgy and heavily textured 'Cobra' with its unrelenting drums, slapping hits and futuristic, psytrance-tinged melodies all designed to mess with your mind.

This is an EP packed with fresh techno, straight from the breakout star Indira Paganotto.

Italian hard techno DJ-producer MAIKE DEPAS (born Michelangelo De Pasquale) has seen the future of music and it’s called metaverse: “In the future it will blow up,” he predicts. “And it’s going to revolutionise the way we experience music.” Bowled over by Skrillex and Martin Garrix at the age of 8, and DJing at small Milan clubs by the time he was 11, Depas went on to study composition and piano at the prestigious Milan Conservatory before learning ‘life-changing” lessons from the best in the business at Catalyst’s 4-week Advanced Sound Design course in Berlin’s Funkhaus last year. Inspired in equal measures by the huge synths of 1990s trance and pounding hard techno of Kobosil, In Verruf, and Amelie Lens, 2024 marks the launch of MAIKE DEPAS 2.0 audio-visual makeover. His new EP ‘Rave the Planet’ drops 29 February on digital and vinyl via The Innovation Studio.

Discussing with Depas, the term ‘vision’ comes up often in relation to his work, especially the new music video of Voyager, an entry into the world where techno and virtual reality turn into an unforgettable, heightened sensory experience. “I would love each listener to create their own vision of Voyager,” he muses. “The character has no face so there is no  identity behind the character, everyone can be the character, and everyone can do their own journey into my world of music.” For any masterpiece to become complete, the artistic vision needs a counterpart, a mirror image, and that is the vision of an audience member. “This is what I’m talking about.”

Dutch-Carribean stars Shermanology debut on Hot Creations with the tremendous three-track Bon Bini EP. The release continues an outstanding 2020 for the brother-sister pairing, which has seen them collaborate with The Martinez Brothers already this year.

Speaking of the release, Shermanology described how “Bon Bini is a combination of everything we stand for. House with a lot of different influences, from gospel to Caribbean. “Bon Bini” means “Welcome” in our language Papiamentu.”

The title track, Bon Bini, kicks off proceedings in a no-nonsense fashion, as a pumping lead kick merges with latin-inspired vocal cuts. The lengthy breakdown builds a party atmosphere, as rustling hats provide an up-tempo feel. OK - Cool - Aight feat. The fast-rising duo Maur get set to make their Sola debut this September with the exhilarating peak-time track Set You Free.

'Set you Free is one of about 10 original tracks we wrote at the start of 2020. We wanted to start working on some more melodic material and this one just felt right from the very beginning. We then sent it to Hannah (Faber) to work on the vocal which we co-wrote together & the outcome is very exciting!' - Maur

British duo Maur have pure finesse when it comes to their newest production. Set You Free cuts right to the chase, with an immediate euphoric melody which is overlaid with a powerful bass and catchy snares. After the first breakdown, you’re introduced to the vocal hook, which dominates the track with a fierce female lead who cries out “I really want to feel you next to me… because you’re always on my mind” creating a sense of longing which then swiftly builds to a crescendo of ecstasy.

Maur was formed by British pair Dan Clare and Dylan May in 2015. Both established DJ’s, they soon began creating the energetic and melodic sounds they have become known for playing out. After several years of releasing music, in the past nine months they have gathered a thundering momentum with break-through releases on labels such as SOLA, CR2, ViVA Music and W&O Street tracks. They also released on club night Mixology’s imprint MXO Records a track titled ‘Gospel Man’, which was heavily supported on dance floors and radio shows across the world.

zAr zAr is a London born artist who has a rough and ready style with a love of acid, breaks and Windy City beats. His raw analogue sounds have taken him to key clubs all round Europe and now he runs his own Quite Nice Actually label, which he kicks off here with two top originals and remixes from dance music aficionados The Mekanism and Ben Sterling.

Opener Consistency is a nice wonky groove with elastic kicks. It's muscular and punchy and is a slick house sound that bubbles with character. The always on form Frenchman The Mekanism then remixes it into a more trippy and late night jam with nice ripples of bass and soulful vocal stabs.

Monsieur Reefer is the next original and this one picks up the pace, with high speed drums and sleek hits all running through with some emotive pads straight from Detroit. Ben Sterling's 3am mix is rippled with subtle acid, as the heavy drums march on and take you deep down a late night rabbit hole.

This is a fantastic start to the new label and one defo to keep on eye on.

Superlux Records continues its release schedule this November with a debut EP from Taymor Zadeh. The four-track ​Life Goes On EP includes three originals from the UK-based artist, as well as a special remix from One Records co-founder, Subb-an.

Speaking on the production process behind the EP, Taymor describes how “​Life Goes On was made using ​a tb303, roland mc505, a 909 which I borrowed from a good friend, some vocal samples from old tape recordings and a load of imagination.”

The A Side gets underway with ​Bubbleworks​, and Taymor’s “imagination” is plain to see. It’s a no-nonsense club-ready cut, with thick hats and an up-tempo lead bassline residing next to an array of bubble-sounding pops throughout. That same late-night feel continues into ​Life Goes On​, as eerie vocals flitter between pulses of acid and punchy, whip-like drums. On the B Side, ​Gekula takes the lead. Fast-paced with clear minimal influences, we’re graced with eight minutes of dancefloor-geared delight as distorted voices reside atop a driving kick-hat backbone, before Subb-an’s remix continues in the same vein, taking us deep into 5 AM territory with glitchy synths and plenty of dark, low-slung percussion.

With an ethos of quality over quantity at his core, Taymor Zadeh ​has carved out a bespoke sound within the electronic music sphere. In recent times his releases have been welcomed by Stephane Genacia’s Highpath Records as well as Luca C’s See Double imprint, a testament to his keen ear for production. Berlin-based ​Subb-an is a leading figure in the UK minimal scene. As co-founder of One Records, 2020 has seen the label celebrate ten years of releases with a two-part vinyl sampler, including tracks from the likes of Anna Wall, Matthew Johnson and more besides.

Hailing from the Israeli capital of Tel Aviv, rising talent Adam Ten makes his debut on Rebellion this December with We Move. The four-track EP includes a collaboration with fellow Tel Aviv artist Mita Gami.

Speaking on the release, Adam stated that: “The EP is a step in my neverending exploration of dance music, as well as a step in my development as an artist. These tracks were made with clear ideas about how I want to move and feel when I'm in the middle of a dancefloor.”

Beginning with the title track We Move, whispering hats converge on gentle key chimes and a groovy 4x4 bassline, before Mita In Reverse arrives with a minimal kick-hat backbone and echoing female hooks. Third up is The Queen, produced in collaboration with fellow Israeli-talent Mita Gami, and features a stunning lyrical solo alongside punchy, dancefloor-geared percussion, whilst Hamakor brings things to a club-ready finish with echoing synth tones and driving drum patterns.

Israeli-mainstay Adam Ten is a leading talent in Tel Aviv’s thriving underground scene. Having cut his teeth in the capital for over ten years, appearances across the Isreali club-circuit have not gone unnoticed, with international performances swiftly stacking up across Europe, Africa and North America. Previous releases on Moscoman’s Disco Halal as well as Dave Seaman’s label Selador have springboarded his sound into the wider spotlight, a testament to his keen ear for production.
