TM8 Q: What’s the first thing you think about when you wake up?

A: "It depends on the day, if I’m really into a certain track I’m making or playing a game I’m obsessed with, it would be in my dreams and on my mind as soon as I wake up. Provided I don’t have to go to work (-_-), it would be the first thing I do before anything else in the day (and maybe all day hehe.)"

London-based DJ and producer Astral Bandit has put together a smooth and silky psytrance and techno-flavoured mix for us. Having heard psytrance for the first time as a teenager, they soon discovered faster techno and trance subgenres and today, they blend all these influences into one signature sound. Following releases on Dublin-based label Harmless Recordings, London’s @area127, Colombian imprint @underzoneco, and mixes for radio stations Netil and Aaja, they’re making a name for themselves across the scene. In this mix, Astral Bandit taps into tripped-out melodies, freaky vocal snippets, wigged-out basslines and several surprises, showcasing their psychedelic leanings all the way through.

"I mostly try to bring in all my early IDM and ambient / minimal influences into a tekno/trance sound, and I try to stay away from stock sounds and typical instrumentation. As far as the mix goes, I just mix and match all the little things that are inspiring me at the moment, i get bored really easily so I always wanna take unexpected left-turns and switch things up. "
