A gift from us to you. ☆  For our final mix of 2023, we’re kicking off our TM8 Live series, where we share a selection of recorded sets from our events. First up, we’ve got a propulsive session from Radical Softness (@radicalsoftness). The Berlin-based DJ played for us in July and rallied the walls of Unit 58, taking us on an emotional ride through groovy, classic techno up to more modern, industrial tones. A resident of @rawmantique collective, they’re a regular fixture on the Berlin scene, so it felt extra special to have Radical Softness debut in London with us last summer.

TM8 Q: Track - memory?
A: "LSG - Netherworld 2005 (Oliver Prime remix) - I will never forget the feeling of playing this for my Berlin debut early this year, it’s one of my favourite tracks of all time and this was a very special set to me. It was also the first time meeting friends that I had only spoken to through socials beforehand, it was incredibly wholesome to see them come to support and dance with me."

Following her insane set for us over the summer at TM8 Party #06, we are delighted to feature HØLEIGH on our podcast series. A prolific name on Manchester's techno circuit, HØLEIGH builds her sets with exquisitely-selected grooves, rumbling basslines and a touch of trance. Having made her well-due debut on @hoerberlin in October and played for parties like Teletech and @ismusberlin several times over, HØLEIGH’s schedule continues to grow by the minute. On her one-hour power pod, the Mancunian delivers a speedy, psy-flavoured mix packed with huge drums and tripped-out melodies, finishing on an ambient note. A talent to watch, 100%.

A: "Do I need to pee?"

Taipei-born DJ Kaytseng shares a psychedelic podcast for us this week. Wavey melodies, sleek drums and high-speed trance rhythms pulsate throughout, evoking a mesmerising aural experience. Based in Naarm, Kay has soundtracked local spots Colour, 24 Moons, Bourke Street Courtyard and many more, supporting artists like Mama Snake, DJ Spit and Schacke along the way. Previous mixes for CRUDE and Boiler Room have allowed her to reach a European audience too. While Kaytseng’s sound is typically fast and trippy, she peppers her mixes with soft vocals and pearlescent soundscapes, striking the perfect balance between brutal and hypnotizing moods. Watch out for Kaytseng this year—we’re sure you’ll hear much more from this talented selector.

London-born, Berlin-based DJ Skin makes her TM8 podcast debut ahead of her TM8 debut this summer. Following several mixes for platforms and collectives like @crudeberlin, @mmuussaa, @parallelhh and @hraberlin, DJ Skins brings her tek-fused, hallucinogenic and surreal sound to our series. Known for conjuring psytrance and techno spirals on dancefloors across Berlin like OXI, Köpenicker Strasse 18, Re:mise and beyond into Barcelona, Copenhagen and Cologne, DJ Skin is right up our street. In this mix, she blends the many aesthetics we love into one glittery trip.

Berlin-based DJ and producer PAX shares a spiralling mix of psy, tek and glittery lusciousness in their mix for us this week. The Buenos Aires-born artist has had a busy year playing across the globe, counting stops in Barcelona, Los Angeles, London, Leipzig, Marseille and beyond, alongside several gigs in their hometown of Berlin. With a sound that merges hypnotic and hardcore, PAX has released on labels Mála Ádh, Black Holes, Tremors, and Aken Aten Records and self-released their debut EP "Apokalypsys". Enter the PAX vortex.

Eora's DJ BIG GUNS shares a bouncy mix of techno for us this week, leaning into frenetic rhythms, groovy melodies, hefty basslines and the more classic sounds from the genre — all the good stuff. A digger at heart, DJ BIG GUNS' record collection encompasses techno from the late 90s and early 2000s, plenty of which crop up in their TM8 podcast and compliment the newer sounds inside. Alongside DJing, the Australian artist has produced hypnotic tunes with tek and hardcore flavours on labels like @puppytapes, @3cb_23 and @regrets_regrets. One to watch from down under.

Hungarian DJ and producer Technokool shares a twinkling blend of mental tek-trance, spiralling into smokey atmospheres, ripply basslines, celestial vocals and otherworldly melodies with a hard dance twist. Like her previous mixes for @crudeberlin, @nobordersmusic, @hraberlin and many more, she has no one style of mixing or sound, keeping her approach fresh and unique, always surprising her audience. As a producer, Technokool has released on labels like @berlin-oxytocin, @parallelhh, and @maisoncloserecords, showcasing her psy-heavy aesthetics. When she's not producing or playing in SAÜLE, Fuchs2, Fuse, OXI and clubs across Europe, Technokool can be found in Budapest's LGBTQIA+ @kinkbudapest, where she's a resident DJ, and alongside the Budapest-based "high speed dj collective", @nofear_unity, which she runs with DJs @aakac and @kamafaka.

TM8 Q: The genre you’d like to erase forever?
A: "If I could erase a genre, it would either be techno-trance pop-edits or neo-rave. I really don't like both of them and generally I'm not a big fan of that tiktok-techno stuff that got so big over the recent years."

Berlin-based, German-born artist Josephine Voigt delivers our first podcast of 2024. As a resident DJ for local collectives @hraberlin, @cumulonimbus-berlin and the Leipzig-based @exilkollektiv, Josephine has emerged as a DJ to watch in recent years. She never lingers long on any one sound and fuses several sub-genres into her sets, evoking visceral feels in clubs like OXI, Suicide Club, ://about blank and beyond. Right now, Josephine is into minimalistic, hypnotic soundscapes punctuated by percussive-organic rhythms and psy textures, as displayed in her TM8 mix. Expect a tense and moody journey into the murkier ends of electronic music.

TM8 Q: How do you go about putting a mix together?
A: "I start creating my sets with an attitude, often visualised in similar colors and translated to feelings, that I want to explore based on the music Ive recently found. This attitude can be found in tracks that differ in their genre, but share similarities in texture and design.  A lot of tracks have elements from multiple genres, where the track can seem like minimal techno because of its arrangement, but the kick is mixed in a way that resembles tribe or gabber. I always struggle with choosing a genre for a set, but I find that I can still create a continuous story by taking an element from the current track and gluing it together with the next song through a similar element in the upcoming song. But in the end the most important way for me to work is intuitively, always being emotionally present and aware if the upcoming track is leading away or towards the core attitude of the set."

Oslo-based DJ and producer IRA delivers a psychedelic, warped-out mix brimming with other-worldly melodies, minimalistic harmonics and industrial soundscapes. Having started out a few years ago in the Oslo rave scene via Enter Tribe, she has since co-founded the club concept Sirena alongside artists Vilde Wahl and Samuel Feste. As a talented producer, IRA has released her dark and dreamy productions on labels like MUSA, Global Pace and In Orbit. We're so excited to add her to our own label later this year.

TM8 Q:  What’s the best and worst thing about being a DJ?
A: "As cliché as it sounds, I think the best thing about being a DJ is that you are put into a privileged position to find your community. As a teenager and even into my early adulthood I never went out clubbing, because I wasn’t exposed to the fact that there were many people like me, who would come together and dance to the music that I love. I would just dance in my room. It was only after I started posting mixes and forming bonds through putting myself out there like that, I realised there are so many people passionately entertained by underground music! It felt like coming home to me, I was convinced I was a lonesome hermit (still am in a way), but music has allowed me to express myself more clearly and loudly than I ever had.

The worst thing about being a DJ… am not sure. There are many privileges that I get and don’t want. Or that I feel are unfairly awarded to me and not others. There are also privileges that awarded only in compliance with some unspoken rules. 

I think we are not being mindful enough about the visual sense seeping into every dimension of the musical experience. Music is auditive and fleeting, fluid. Visuality imposes a fixed point of view. It crystallizes an experience which can’t be captured, but only felt communally, into a false image. This is inherently political. It surprises me how little attention is paid to the impact it’s having on our scene and what we could still consider ‘underground’. For me a successful night is one where you can lose yourself into the crowd, the music and the dense atmosphere of the party, all the while feeling safe to do so. I hope that despite the boundaries imposed around me today in nightlife, I can continue working towards that project. "

Belgian-born, London-based artist Instar shines on their mix for us this week, welding witchy trance and tekno textures, reflecting their fascination with "small vacuums of silence amongst the noise" like the fleeting moment before a wave crashes the shore. "It's there that I feel the most, or maybe there are things that are situated under those feelings and are present before their eruption," they explained. This approach bleeds into their shoegaze band Sunchaser too, where Instar performs and produces dreamy, slow-burning sounds. As a DJ, Instar co-organises the party @burenhinder in Belgium, where they nurture the queer community by booking *FLINTA artists and providing a welfare team to look after the dancefloor, like guardian angels, implementing a camera-free policy, aftercare and harm reduction. The same philosophies extend to Instar's daily work behind the scene(s), whether they are writing, interviewing artists or running club events.

DJ and producer NORA showcases the Brazilian sound with excellence. Established across the continent, NORA has played parties like Mamba Negra and ODD in São Paulo and KODE in Rio de Janeiro. She's also the founder of the party ARENA, which supports queer artists and has cultivated a loyal following in the Rio scene. Soon to embark on her second European tour, NORA has already taken her collection of techno, hard dance, breakcore and jungle to Tresor, C12, Club Rotesonne, and Kiosk Radio. NORA's EPs like 'Miss u Raving' and 'JUMP' are perfect examples of her fluidity as a producer, smoothly layering several genres, aptly reflected in her mix for us this week too.

A: "My all time favourite club is hands down Bassiani (Tbilisi, Georgia).It ticks all the boxes - insane space, pristine sound, and a passionate and dedicated community behind it. Bassiani has a point of view, and that’s what makes it special - you can feel that on every level - from the event curation, to the vibe on the dancefloor to the political activism they do outside the club. All the times I’ve played there I have wept actual tears while dancing."

Bulgarian-born DJ and producer Vixen (she/her) shares an exceptional mix with us this week; it's one hour of music made exclusively by *FLINTA producers, expertly blended by the Copenhagen-based artist. Reflecting the visceral energy that permeates the Danish electronic scene, Vixen is a member of the DIY party collective @fastforwardproductions and a resident of queer sex-positive series @bedsideproductions. She has played in clubs and spaces across Europe and beyond, DJing in Berlin, Paris, London, and Tbilisi, to name a few. As a producer, Vixen released her debut EP "Hard Magick For Soft Souls" in 2021, and next up, she's prepping her second solo record on Schacke's label, @sacredinterface.

Revisiting Nina Pixina's (@ninapixina) cerebral opening set for our party in November at FOLD. The Transylvanian, London-based artist warmed up the space with hypnotic moods, shapeshifting  melodies and the more shadowy elements of techno; a perfect start to the night.

Nina has been a TM8 regular since we started out, and we've watched their journey as a DJ evolve over the years. We were so happy to invite Nina to play for us and enjoy their presence and energy from the DJ booth rather than the dancefloor.

Berlin-based artist Softmatter shares a dynamic mix for us this week. Anna Pavlova, aka Softmatter, is a DJ, producer, multidisciplinary artist and vocalist whose output is characterised by twisted and distorted electronics, heavy-hitting drumwork and mutant vocal samples. With a keen interest in post-human theory, neuroscience and quantum physics; her musical practice explores the fluidity and uncertainty of experience and perception. In Anna’s own words, “When I begin the creative process without expectations and embracing uncertainty, I get results that represent me the most.”

UK-born, Amsterdam-based writer and DJ LNR has recorded a FLINTA-focused mix for us. Inspired by the collective dialogue between her journalistic research surrounding dance music history and her obsession with collecting old-school vinyl, the multi-disciplined artist translates pen to wax by creating journeys centred around fluid iterations of sound system culture. Exploring refractions of music in the hardcore and psychedelic spectrums and integrating technological rawness with dissociative coils, LNR has played alongside 90s legends like 69db from Spiral Tribe, Eat Static, Felix K, μ-Ziq, and Scion, and has DJ'd in Amsterdam's Garage 
Noord and for Belgium's free party collective, V23. 

In this mix, however, LNR has ditched her usual vinyl-only format to highlight a talented array of FLINTA artists, including music from the feminist freetekno collective Witchcraft rec, and producers Nkisi, Azu Tiwaline, Saskia, DJ Sofa, c00, gi, Laura STZ, Freeman 713, Kan10, DJ Spice, and Liza N Eliaz. The latter was the earliest trans woman in hardcore, according to LNR's research. "She co-produced the first ever Bonzai record before Jones & Stephenson's 'The First Rebirth' came out and made the label go crazy," LNR told us. "Sadly she died in 2001 but it felt important to me to include her music in this mix. Shout out to other old-school female techno, hardcore, and jungle legends who didn't make the mix this time: Ixindamix, Laura Grabb, Miss Djax, Kemistry & Storm, and DJ Rap."

Having released her critically acclaimed debut album 'hot blue' on the Norwegian label Sheep Chase Records in 2023, dragongirl has since brought her vibrant sound to some of Northern Europe's most well-known clubs and festivals including Denmark's Den Anden Side, Berlin's OST and OXI, and Kaleido Festival. Her sets blend trance, techno and happy hardcore with influences from Eurodance, gabber and EDM, inviting her audience on a playful and unexpected adventure. And that's exactly what dragongirl mirrors in this week's mix.

Uruguayan DJ and producer YOZY supplies a shape-shifting mix for us, oscillating between experimental and broken rhythms to 4/4 techno and irresistible trance classics. The Barcelona-based artist also includes tracks from her upcoming album, dropping June 5th. Having released several contributions to VAs on Clan Destine Records, low income $quad, and Last Love Records, they have also delivered music to Human Club; a label based in Barcelona's Razzmatazz, where they are a resident DJ and run their own party CALIENTE. Additionally, YOZY has played for parties and festivals like Boiler Room x Primavera Sound, Raiders, Suicide Club, Voight-Kampff, Latineo, and many more. Plus, their monthly radio show on HKCR called 'Messages from the stars' has recently transformed into an IRL ambient showcase.

The Barcelona-based talent leans into Latin rhythms, choppy percussion, and emotional textures across their sets, creating a mood that blurs the lines between rhythmic intensity and sonic experimentation. Having established their profile within the Barcelona scene by playing parties like Latineo, MUSA, Deprerreo, and No Tags, puxo has since released an ambient EP as a parallel exploration to their artistic output, revealing a more introspective side of their sound.

Sevyn0000’s (@sevyn0000) set from our FOLD event in May is now available to listen back to in full. The New York-based producer and DJ shared a textured set with us that night, layered with psychedelic rhythms, spacious sound design and crunchy percussion. From the glitchy intro to the shadowy final track, we were hooked.

TM8 Q: Who’s the dream third wheel for your B3B and why? 
A: “Our dream B3B, it’s actually really easy to say, it also might seem silly with a sea of incredible artists to pick from. Especially all the producers here whose tracks we deeply connect with. However when It comes to it, we would have to choose our dear friend and chosen family member @0ccyx. We are a trio in our own way, always looking at the sound system, talking about our favourite artists and productions. We do what we love with each other which is: dance, scheme, run parties and continuously push each other to find the next most otherworldly track which we’ll not stop talking about for weeks. We’re our own little family, us three against the world.”

Bristol-based duo Field Case share a winding mix for us, snaking through slow-burning rhythms, meditative beats, and mystical soundscapes, exploring the deepest and most cerebral shades of techno. DJs Petrachore and Ohana are behind Field Case and began the project after meeting by chance in early 2023. They then formed Bristol’s first-ever queer community radio station, Transgression.fm, to showcase artists in the city’s creative realm. These days, Field Case are residents of Bristol events RTN and Queerky, where they continue to meld their differing musical backgrounds and sonic palettes. Their journey together has defined their sound, character and mystery, and we’re delighted to share a taster of that on this week’s mix.

TM8 Q: What tune would you walk down the aisle to (if ever)?
A: "I’ve never really imagined walking down the aisle; the image itself never belonged to my thoughts. But if I think of it as a symbol of union, a crossing into something new, a merging of paths and transformations.. two tunes come to me: The Sound of Silence and Scarborough Fair by Simon & Garfunkel. They both seem to hold that delicate balance between melancholy and hope, love and magic.”

Transformation, intuition, and connection; these are the feelings that inform Qi’s story-led sets and productions. Crafting immersive and ritual-inflected sounds, the Armenian artist and @crudeberlin resident blends deep, fast-paced rhythms with atmospheric textures, creating moments that move both the mind and body. Inspired by natural phenomena, ancient echoes, and the alchemy of sound, Qi’s signature shines in her mix for us and stretches beyond into her 
label and storytelling platform, @siooqh.

A: "DJ Richard - Waiting for the Green Flash. DJ Richard (@ioiooioooiooioi) is a Providence-based legend and one of the founders of White Materials records. I love his 2015 record Savage Coast, whose sounds and album art are inspired by Rhode Island’s rugged coastline. I spent a lot of time outdoors paddling and exploring on the water this summer, so I thought this tune was fitting."

Providence-based DJ and producer Emma Rak shares a multi-sensory mix for us, layered with rolling kickdrums, gauzy melodies and textured bass motifs. Blending techno, freetek, DnB, and many more genres across her sets and productions, Emma is a resident DJ on Hong Kong Community Radio and has released music on labels like @fluxcollective, @v23be, and @ninety-three-collective. Emma also runs anti-alias (@anti-alias-recs), a party series oriented around leftfield techno, embedded in Providence’s coastal, post-industrial landscape and its rich history of noise and DIY music.
