Through this compilation and curation, General Merchant is showcasing the range of sounds that you may expect to hear at one of their warehouse parties.

General Merchant acknowledges that it operates on stolen land, belonging to the Gadigal and Wangal people of the Eora Nation, and we pay our respects to Aboriginal elders past, present and emerging.

Berlin-based artist Softmatter shares a dynamic mix for us this week. Anna Pavlova, aka Softmatter, is a DJ, producer, multidisciplinary artist and vocalist whose output is characterised by twisted and distorted electronics, heavy-hitting drumwork and mutant vocal samples. With a keen interest in post-human theory, neuroscience and quantum physics; her musical practice explores the fluidity and uncertainty of experience and perception. In Anna’s own words, “When I begin the creative process without expectations and embracing uncertainty, I get results that represent me the most.”

UK-born, Amsterdam-based writer and DJ LNR has recorded a FLINTA-focused mix for us. Inspired by the collective dialogue between her journalistic research surrounding dance music history and her obsession with collecting old-school vinyl, the multi-disciplined artist translates pen to wax by creating journeys centred around fluid iterations of sound system culture. Exploring refractions of music in the hardcore and psychedelic spectrums and integrating technological rawness with dissociative coils, LNR has played alongside 90s legends like 69db from Spiral Tribe, Eat Static, Felix K, μ-Ziq, and Scion, and has DJ'd in Amsterdam's Garage 
Noord and for Belgium's free party collective, V23. 

In this mix, however, LNR has ditched her usual vinyl-only format to highlight a talented array of FLINTA artists, including music from the feminist freetekno collective Witchcraft rec, and producers Nkisi, Azu Tiwaline, Saskia, DJ Sofa, c00, gi, Laura STZ, Freeman 713, Kan10, DJ Spice, and Liza N Eliaz. The latter was the earliest trans woman in hardcore, according to LNR's research. "She co-produced the first ever Bonzai record before Jones & Stephenson's 'The First Rebirth' came out and made the label go crazy," LNR told us. "Sadly she died in 2001 but it felt important to me to include her music in this mix. Shout out to other old-school female techno, hardcore, and jungle legends who didn't make the mix this time: Ixindamix, Laura Grabb, Miss Djax, Kemistry & Storm, and DJ Rap."

Beatrice M.'s Bait invites Trois-Quarts Taxi System back into the fold for both the artist’s and label’s debut album release, ‘Plexus’. Leaning into innovative 140 mutations, Trois-Quarts Taxi System dedicates his first long-format release to exploring the depth of this space and stepping away from his usual 170/80 sound. A deep meditative journey of introspection.

Taking the name ‘Plexus’ from a key he found in the street, the album is split into various parts with the heart of album comprised of three parts of ‘Plexus’ - drone-like soundscapes which retrace different states using a variety of acoustic and electronic sounds combined with samples from an anonymous cassette found in the street. This hybridisation of sound is often influenced by ideas Trois-Quarts Taxi System comes across whilst working on his live shows; an artistic practice that is very important to his output.

Having released her critically acclaimed debut album 'hot blue' on the Norwegian label Sheep Chase Records in 2023, dragongirl has since brought her vibrant sound to some of Northern Europe's most well-known clubs and festivals including Denmark's Den Anden Side, Berlin's OST and OXI, and Kaleido Festival. Her sets blend trance, techno and happy hardcore with influences from Eurodance, gabber and EDM, inviting her audience on a playful and unexpected adventure. Uruguayan DJ and producer YOZY supplies a shape-shifting mix for us, oscillating between experimental and broken rhythms to 4/4 techno and irresistible trance classics. The Barcelona-based artist also includes tracks from her upcoming album, dropping June 5th. Having released several contributions to VAs on Clan Destine Records, low income $quad, and Last Love Records, they have also delivered music to Human Club; a label based in Barcelona's Razzmatazz, where they are a resident DJ and run their own party CALIENTE.
