POSSESSION PODCAST #174 - PARRISH SMITH

“no elitism, no prejudices, no genre,

Whilst captivating audiences with music that is both intense and hypnotic, Parrish Smith embarks on a rather successful journey of creating spaces where walls are torn down and prejudices are non-existent. 
During this unique venture into the broad spectrum of electronica, Smith is able to display his take on various the layers of electronic music with extreme perceptive subtlety. 

Emotion and intensity are the true predominant factors in Parrish Smith’s music. These two catalysts come to fruition in not only contemporary techno, but even enable Parrish to manoeuvre himself amongst different styles of music. Since 2014 Parrish is merging Punk influenced electronics into film scoring to conceptual projects and band music. This strength comes from combining emotion and intensity, thus resulting in projects that are inspirational in its truest form. Gaining attention from Nina Kraviz, Dutch labels Knekelhuis, Dekmantel and working with iconic Industrial bands like SMERSH, Ramleh and EM.

Both the projects Parrish Smith and the collaboration with Mark van de Maat as the elusive and non-compromising punk band Volition Immanent succeed in reaching the ultimate goal: unifying people by creating spaces where they can be engulfed in music that is free of any bias or prejudice. 
Elitism is for the weak. It is paramount that you always stay true to yourself and your music. Following these major mantras, Smith represents a beautiful and true example of the punk mentality

Nene H has made a name for herself with her signature boundary-pushing sound, always exploring different paths on which techno can lead her, be it in productions, live sets or DJ mixes. Her most recent works include the 2020 EP “Standard Deviation” in collaboration with the artist Poly Chain, and a terrific release in March of this year, the EP “Beast” on the French label Possession, featuring the remixes of artists VTSS and Hadone. 
 
It is her “in-your-face” spirit, always taking risks to project her music to the next level, that Nene H has brought today in our 12th podcast episode. The occasion for us to get to know more about her artistic and personal peregrinations.

olesia is a Russian-born, London-based queer DJ who goes in HARD. Think slamming techno that jumps from clean kickdrums to gnarlier beats of the early 90s, with the occasional jaw-grinding vocal thrown in at just the right time. Having played across the UK capital for Lobsterfest, Unfold, Riposte, Find Me In The Dark, Boudica and Inferno, she's navigated fluctuating crowds and various club settings, allowing her to expand her skill and ultimately hold the dancefloor in the palm of her hand. 

Co-founder of Technomate, she uses the platform as an event, educational, and podcast platform to champion and showcase international FLINTA (female, lesbian, inter, non-binary, trans and asexual / agender) artists. While Technomate garners an online presence via a residency on Threads radio and standalone podcast series, olesia curates each aspect of TM8 to nurture London's techno scene for the better. Whether she's organizing discussions with established artists as part of the TM8 .edu series or booking the next round of inspiring and emerging artists for TM8 parties, olesia is a true talent contributing significant value to club culture in 2022.

Ace made herself known through her debut EP Glitzer Vs Hass that was released on SPFDJ’s highly esteemed label Intrepid Skin in early 2022. Two more releases have followed since on Anetha’s Mama Told Ya and Ceili’s Mala Adh. In late 2022 Ace introduced her own hybrid label Hardwon.

Valerie Ace started her musical journey in her teens playing electric guitar in an experimental rock band and spent much of her 20s in art school where she turned toward a more electronic sound. Playing the role of a tongue-in-cheek commentator, she draws inspiration from lived experiences of today’s complex dance-floor politics.

In the Studio Valerie Ace likes to experiment and create her own sounddesigns and aesthetics. She has been exploring electronic instruments from her first oscillator - which was a self-made circuit that she built into the back of an electric guitar - all the way to complex modular synthesizers. It is this high level of curiosity and attention to detail which allows the sound of Valerie Ace to stand out.

TM8 Q: What's your dream venue to play at?
A: "My dream venue right now would be Fold in London but for a peak time set! I've played a warmup set there in October and the space seems super promising."

Düsseldorf-based DJ and producer Valerie Ace is artist no. 38 to feature in our podcast series. Since the German artist released her debut EP "Glitzer Vs Hass" on SPFDJ's label @intrepidskin in February, Valerie has dived head-first into music production. Follow-up releases on @mamatoldya and @malaadh have snaked into her discography, amplifying her lithe sound within the technosphere. Valerie also heads up her own label, @hardwon-label, where she has shared more of her work alongside a release by Morocco-born producer Vel. In 2022, Valerie soundtracked FOLD, ÆDEN and broadcast her first Boiler Room from Berlin. Next year, she'll return to London for a specific event…somewhere in Tottenham. 👀 Keen to experiment and create her own sound designs, Valerie pays close attention to detail, whether she's DJ or producing. Her searing mix for us reflects this approach to a tee.
