TF #260: @chlo-lula [@aufnahme-wiedergabe] 

San Francisco-born, Berlin-based artist @chloe-lula has been involved with the electronic music scene for more than a decade. She started producing her first live sets in 2019, when she completed a month-long artist residency with Drew McDowall of Coil. The experience ignited her confidence in composition and allowed her to combine her classical cello training with electronics, melding granular synthesis with acoustic riffs and metallic percussion to create an alloyed brand of droned-out industrial electronica. Many of these jams ended up becoming the tracks on her debut EP with aufnahme + wiedergabe, where she’s been a resident for four years.

In addition to her career as a DJ, she is also a music journalist and a selector for her monthly punk show, ‘No Exit,’ on Refuge Worldwide Radio.

PODCAST: Series 5 [TMFP044] - ONTOLOGICAL MOOD

While Scalameriya's first album, Hubris (2016) on Genesa Records, was an exploration of what he considered "uncharted territory" at that time, Aeon Core (2022) on Perc Trax, on the other hand, was a process of cataloguing the various techno influences from his teenage years, seen through the lens of his modern, unmistakable style.
The next chapter of Scalameriya's turbulent saga in electronic music is Kornukopiya (2024), the manifesto of a mad scientist, a depiction Nikola resisted for years that ultimately became an embraced part of his persona as he finally takes on the lab coat of a genre-defying artist he was bound to become.
His documented, unwavering discipline has transformed into nothing less than rituals that are performed daily, securing him the grace of the muse as a result.
With Kornukopiya, Scalameriya ventures beyond the ordinary and dashes to the forefront of avant-garde club music, evading the shackles of conventional techno yet again while he effortlessly showcases his limitless hyperphantasia across 25 tracks, each as relentless and articulate as the other, making this album an auditory opulence for listeners eager to experience more than just a simple interaction between an effective kick and a random blip.
Always remaining conceptual, worshiping the idea and imagination as sacred phenomena, this time he consolidates the ever-recurring motifs of sci-fi, danger, and weight in his music with the mystical, bringing forth coherent displays of sound that, collectively as an album, emit an uncanny fusion of mechanical ferocity and ethereal enchantment.
At the moment, Kornukopiya can be considered Scalameriya's "magnum opus", but with his merciless pursuit of the apex of sound design, this statement will likely be rendered obsolete in the blink of an eye.
