After graduating from the Rhode Island School of Design in Providence, American DJ Richard went on to set up White Material. It’s a label and artistic collective including the likes of Young Male that became synonymous with roughed up, frayed house and techno. In 2015, Richard served up a debut album on Dial that was a deep meditation on foggy, ambient coated house drones. Since then, aside from DJ gigs round the world, he has been rather quiet in terms of releases. 

That means this podcast from him is timely indeed, and shows us just where he is at: serving up jagged rhythms, industrial cold wave cuts and bleak, grainy atmospheres that are devoid of human life if not for the odd dehumanised vocal yelps and pained cry. It’s fizzing, mid tempo but engaging stuff that is underpinned by a tension and darkness that always keeps you intrigued.

If you would go fishing to the wide and deep lake next to mount dub, you can expect to find Van Bonn sitting there – right in the moment to catch huge delays and frequency modulations to create the next dubby excursion, which he is known for.

Recently he did a remix for Insect O.'s "Forest Of The Monkeys". It has been released alongside edit's of Insect O.'s "Atacama" full length by El Choop, Idealist and Patrick Zigon. We had a chat about his inspirations for his remix, his studio stetup and some of his favourite places in his new  home Denmark.

Greyscale wishes to thank it's loyal listeners with a special treat from their founder. grad_u went deep into the archive and has collected 12 unreleased before tracks ranging from 2006 to 2016. This goes back to the time of his very first releases up through to the beginnings of the Mood Series! In those 10 years there is a lot of various sides to the grad_u sound that this highlight's. From powerful bangers like 'Helix' and 'Nuclear Reactor' to dancefloor gems such as 'Biomechanics' and 'DX'. Then there are sure fire winners for the tech fans with 'Vacuum Cleaner' and 'Machine'. grad_u hasn't forgot those that love it extra deep with 'Taip Laukiu' and 'Bounce 06'. There is also a few special checkpoints along the way in this release that will help you bookmark all these great tracks.
