The offshore vertical profiler system has a hydrophone for listening to sounds in the water. Shortly after it began making full vertical profiles, we started hearing dolphin conversations. Here's an example of dolphins chattering nearby the instrument float. Were they curious about the profiling system, something new and unusual in their environment?
