DEMOKRITOS Researcher’s Night
The purpose of the Researchers’ Night is to convey to the general public the key ideas that Research is a necessary ingredient for progress, the Researchers are an integral part of the community and their profession is both fun, challenging, interesting and worth pursuing. The presentation of the work of the scientists to the Greek public will showcase the need of scientific and technological breakthroughs and opportunities that benefit society in many ways.!
Activities during the main event will be conducted indoor and outdoor including hands-on experiments, demos, simulations (in silico demonstrations), show and tell stands, experiment demonstrations, science shows, guided tours and visits to the labs, display of films, music performances by researchers, exhibitions (scientific and artistic), demonstrations on applications coming from science research, using art to convey science and showing the other side of researchers...!

Researcher’s Night Demokritos Greece

Dr. Maria Koutsobogera, a Researcher at the Institute for Language and Speech Processing (ILSP), talks about the state-of-the-art research in Multimodal Communication, Information Processing and Retrieval. Research in Multimodal communication designs and optimizes models in order to create a more natural experience in agent-based communications. Recent studies on those models investigate applications beyond the improvement of context awareness and conversation flow, moving into sociological and psychological analysis of user groups. She explains the ‘olfactory’ term and the solution it entails to finding the right tissue without ethical boundaries.
