The corruption was slow to spread at first, infiltrating the neural tissue of only a single patient after exposure via a contaminated food supply. There it lay largely dormant for some time, merely expanding its network of control over its host’s brain without any external symptoms. Indeed, one could be forgiven for understanding the microorganism's evolutionary coding as a form of cold and calculating malevolence, akin to that of an ambush predator eagerly awaiting the perfect moment to strike. For months it bode its time, gently exerting more and more influence over its host body until it required further hosts to replicate itself further. Then, and only then, did the microorganism command its willing vessel to strike out with a ferocity that had been imbued in its form over these many moons of docile dormancy. 

The first sound heard by the other patients in the wing was a tremendous rending of metal. With strength exorbitantly far beyond that of the seemingly frail old body that housed the parasitic microorganism, the host body had torn through the steel door that had kept it caged for so long. The second was a guttural and wholly inhuman shriek of success that merged quickly with the squelching of a guard’s body being pulverized against the stark white walls of the cell block’s shared hallway, and then again by bursts of gunfire from the block’s other two guards who spent their last seconds trying to quell this newly awakened beast. As bullets found their purchase in flesh, the monster’s unearthly wails grew to a defiant crescendo which all but drowned out the sounds of the two more quiet screams that followed before the host body, unbroken despite the hail of lead that had fallen upon it, took off at a sprint down the hallway and further into the bowels of the institution that had borne it into existence.

PROLIX makes his EATBRAIN debut with ZOMBIES, a two-track single that sees the accomplished artist make a triumphant entrance before the ears of the label’s faithful. Delivering a masterful display of the unrestrained Neurofunk sonics for which both himself and EATBRAIN are so well known, PROLIX finds a natural home amidst the menagerie of monstrous minds that make up the EATBRAIN horde’s leading edge.

Throughout the endless expanses of the savannah and the depths of the jungle alike can be heard a set of bellowing sounds that seem to shake the very earth beneath the feet of all the creatures who perceive them. The provenance of these sounds stretches back millennia, originating within a world frozen, shunned by its guiding star, and plunged into an age of ice and snow. Here strode a species of proud beasts of towering stature, their wollen bodies stretching upwards into the heavens as our own ancestors stepped gingerly across the permafrost in their gargantuan shadow. Careful not to provoke their ire and find themselves impaled upon one of the creature’s great ivory tusks, our people listened in awe as these great giants spoke, their thunderous voices echoing within the crisp air of that frozen era.

In the ages since, the relationship between our two species has changed. Our people have grown, and the descendants of the giants have found themselves smaller, standing in fear and awe of the technological progress that we have made. Our own species is now capable of speaking in an approximation of their tongue, replicating it not with our bodies but instead synthesizing it with our technology. Yet still, it is that when the great trunks of these once-mammoth beings speak in the tones that they have preserved for ages, even the most cynical amongst us do stand in awe of the sonic force that nature has created, listening intently to the booming call of the ELEPHANT’S LANGUAGE.

Only half way through 2018, Cre8 Dnb has had their biggest year yet and this isn’t something which is likely to change with Danger’s first solo EP set to be released on the imprint. The young Belgium producer was spotted by label head DJ Blackley, an artist who’s created his own legacy within the scene, and he was taken into the Cre8 roster with little hesitation. Belgium stands as an incredibly popular territory for the label, with their popularity only growing within the European country. They’ve hosted an array of events throughout Belgium, whilst giving a platform to their market’s blossoming newcomers, so it comes as no surprise that such a hotly tipped newcomer would be brought into Cre8’s ranks. 
Cre8 has also received a show of support for their back catalogue from across drum & bass, being championed by the likes of veteran figurehead DJ Phantasy and Radio 1 tastemaker Rene LaVice. It’s likely that Danger’s EP will receive the same airplay, with the artist already leaving his mark on show-stopping labels such as Smokin’ Riddims, G13, SR2, Gun Audio and Digital Terror Recordings. 
The ‘Simulations’ EP is a return to form for Danger, who’s delivered a plethora of cut-throat records on Cre8. Tracks like ‘Sleep Paralysis’ prove Danger’s appetite for destruction, beginning to roll out menacingly before the colossal drop, spearheaded by a waif-like sample which adds to its foreboding build up. ‘Ths One’ is just as ferocious, snapping into life with pounding drum rhythms and warbling bass, the type which cuts its way through the composition like a knife. Dub Berzerka then joins Danger for title-track ‘Simulation’, as they bring their joint forces to a track which merges a colossal show of heavy artillery. Klay jumps in for the second collaboration alongside Danger, with ‘In Put’ continuing the same seismic standards upheld by the rest of the EP’s track listing. Finishing the ‘Simulations EP’ is ‘Touch of Generations VIP’ from Danger and Mavu, twisting an already well-loved track on its head, whilst staying true to its original roots. It shows Danger is aware of where he came from, but he’s wanted to make even more of an impact by returning to Cre8.

With both parties having already made their mark within the roster of Trendkill, the imprint created by drum & bass figurehead Prolix, their names will be familiar with many veteran fans of the genre. But their joint prowess, alongside the massive body of tracks they’ve already got prepared for release, proves that their output is set to be a turning point for Trendkill. And this is from a label which has had a groundbreaking discography since its inception.

The fires of the NEUROPUNK FORGE alight once more with the arrival of the WARHEAD EP, the latest release from rising Russian duo DESPERSION on NEUROPUNK RECORDS. Established in 2017, the duo have seen previous releases on a variety of labels including Ignescent, 0101 and Kill Tomorrow, within which they have displayed their development of a style that blends complex melodic motifs with aggressive percussive and bassline sequences for a synthesis formed of these two often disparate sounds. Now making their NEUROPUNK RECORDS debut, DESPERSION deliver four tracks in this signature style to create the latest set of auditory weapons straight from the NEUROPUNK FORGE.

Opened by the minor chords and arpeggios of the title track of the same name, the WARHEAD EP quickly erupts with low end weight leavened by the interspersion of melodic reprisals of its opening theme. The deceptively named PEACE which follows provides a slice of scathing neurofunk marked by the tonalities of the distorted hornlike synth that blasts above its rapidly moving bassline. OFFENSIVE next delivers an explosive barrage of transient percussive impacts that fall with perfectly planned precision amongst the tracks chaotic upper atmosphere. Closing the EP is I NEED YOU NOW, which departs from the hard charging energy of its predecessors to deliver a flowing vocal cut emblematic of DESPERSION’s melodic abilities.

With the WARHEAD EP, DESPERSION deliver a dynamic debut on NEUROPUNK RECORDS, showing a deft ability to craft beautiful melodic sequences and works of utmost sonic aggression in equal measure, marking themselves as a duo to watch as they emerge from the NEUROPUNK FORGE.
