This is the soundtrack I wrote for the short documentary "The Art of Acid" (2018) produced and directed by Ed Nachtrieb.  It is a short documentary about Acid Art collector Mark McCloud and the creative and legal history of blotter art.

The Art of Acid Soundtrack

This music was done way back in 1982 for a college electronic music class project.  The recording took place over two different nights (all-nighters) using only a Tascam 4-track cassette Portastudio, a Boss DE-200 delay and an Oberheim OB-8 synthesizer.  The tracks were mixed from my Portastudio directly to another cassette deck, so pardon the recording quality.  I still think the tracks sound excellent, albeit dated, and it's a great example of all the things an OB-8 can do.  There was no sequencer used to make these tracks, only the OB-8 arpeggiator, the delay and two hands were used.

OM Project Album

This is a selection from a sampling/spoken word project I did with actor Farrell Timlake in the mid-80's.  All of these tracks were done on a Tascam 388  8-track using a Yamaha RX-11 drum machine, SPX-90 and various samplers (Mirage/Emax/S-50).  I produced, composed and recorded all the music, Farrell handled all the words and vocals. This project heavily influenced our DJ friends and roommates Mike and John, the eventual Dust Brothers, who went on to sampling fame with the Beastie Boys (Paul's Boutique) and Beck (Odelay, Guero).

The is a binaural mix of our first album.  It was recorded by playing back our surround album in the studio and recording it using a Neumann Binaural Head Mic model KU100 - as good as it gets.

This was recorded on an Allen & Heath QU-16 in stereo direct to USB stick.  I love this mixer!

Live Modular Synthony - First Rehearsal

Rain Recompilation Remix - This is a remix by me and Justin Lassen of a Studio Voodoo track from 1988 and featured on our Club Voodoo DVD-A.   Justin cut it up into a rough mix and I tweaked, arranged and mixed it. The original tracks were in 5.1 and folded down to this version which kills the mix.  There is no true stereo mix - someday I'll get around to it.  I like this track a lot, but it needs a good stereo mix for sure to bring out the timing and the details.  Much better in 5.1.

Rain Recompilation Remix - Feat. Justin Lassen

This track is a remix of a song by vocalist Larisa Stow and Shakti Tribe, and features Loren Nerell who shared the remix duties.  Larisa has an awesome voice and has sung on several Studio Voodoo tracks.

Doo Whatcha Do

A part of a live club set of Roughneck Posse in the early 90's - probably at Blind Melon's in Pacific Beach.  Rocking reggae music with awesome vocals. One of San Diego's best live Reggae Bands of all time! We played together from about 1989 to 1994 and won the San Diego Music Award for Best Reggae Band in 1992. Enjoy!

Studio Voodoo is me (Ted Price a.k.a. "Starsky") and Gary "Koz" Mraz - I'm on the right. We love world music and raw beats and we come from the old school, when analog synths ruled!

Surround sound is our passion and many Studio Voodoo tracks were originally recorded for 5.1 or 6.1 DTS surround playback.

We've been doing this for awhile and this site holds several of our Studio Voodoo tracks and some of my old and new stuff too. Enjoy and share with your friends!
