I am a long time student of the bansuri , Indias' subtle and enormously expressive bamboo flute .  I studied in my early years with GS Sachdev , the most patient and generous of teachers and a great master whose purity of tone is renowned, and more recently with Mindia Devi Klein a very talented California based bansuri player and world musician, who herself studied extensively with Hariprasad Chaurasia . The bansuri itself has been a great teacher on the nature of ego and selflessness.  Recently I played a short piece at a wedding, in a beautiful redwood grove. The music seemed  totally unremarkeable to me . Afterward so many people told me how touching and beautiful it was, I had to reflect on what made it so. I noticed that  i remembered absolutely nothing about what I played till the last 10 seconds. It seemed that touching that still place, beyond the mind  the essence of Raga ( which means to tinge or color i.e. the mind ) worked its magic . 
       I generally play one of 2 E flute made be Harshwarden of New Dehli , or an F flute made by Jeff Whittier . I play regularly at weddings and other occasions and at the siddha yoga ashram in Oakland 

Mehata Sentimental Legend is a solo project of Hiroshi Mehata since 2007.
His sound has been called Radical Fusion of Psychedelic Noise music and Japanese traditional music.
2011 "Noum Zeccyou(Mind Plug Records)", 2020 ”Exhausted Woeks” etc.
From 2012 to 2021, he was in a band called GAIAMAMOO.
As of 2022, he is a visual artist whose work draws on his experience in experimental music.

Portakal is an improvisatory world music band, which aspires to create a sound that is evoked by the love and subsequent immersion of it’s members in different genres of music. The band seeks musical direction from Indian classical, Balkan, Jazz and contemporary western traditions and can confidently describe its music to sound nothing like its influences.
