All mouse clicks??? Omg. This is awesome. Absolutely awesome. Rarely I come across some music on Reddit I genuinely enjoy. Could go straight into the MarioKart soundtrack.

I'd call this a remake, but it's honestly a cover of my own track. The original, flawed in all its good intentions, never quite sat with me. The jazzz simply wasn't strong enough. It needed more of a jam feel, more of a climax, and definitely more horns.

I'll Call You Back

This remake took a couple of tries to get right. The original XM competed in the multichannel compo at The Party 1995. It ended up in 16:th place which I felt pretty good about, given that the mix was absolute mooseshit.

Plenty of things ended up on the shop floor for this one. The original drums were all room and no slap. The guitar sample I stole from Zodiak (Hej, Erik!) had to be axed, as did the obscure wah wah guitar sample I forgot the source of. Most significantly, though, that pretty psyched sax solo had to go, as it was nicked from some The Roots live bootleg, so I decided to hand the reins over to the keyboards for this one. When in doubt, always bet on a hardsync solo.

The part at 3:11 is actually a decent enough ending, but I really didn't feel like wrapping it up. Three-minute songs honestly feel too short these days, so I threw in a return of the main motif with this meandering kinda "just play what you want, this is the fadeout anyway" part that was just fantastic to make. Always loved a good jam.

So I've been meaning to try out this EDM thing people are on about. I dunno about genre, it's all trance to me =)

Also, it turns out I stole the hook from the intro to Sixteen Short, I guess those chords just make sense to me...

Fastest Cube

So, here we are again, 12 years later... Felt it was time to give this old behemoth some love. It's the same track order as the previous one (which I'll leave up in case people prefer it) but if you know it well enough you'll notice some tweaks, and the end part is new-ish. Same vibe, more stuff happening.

Megamix 2022

This is one from the vaults. About 15 years ago, I made the soundtrack for Ragu, an entry to a game competition called Dream Build Play. As is common with hobby projects, I had a lot of creative wiggle room, so I obviously went with the most predictably happy-go-lucky funk soundtrack I could possibly conjure. I regret nothing!

The original was only about two minutes long, so it has been "de-looped" and given a fresh coat of paint. Happy buzzing!

Ragu Soundtrack

Just like with demo music, I'm really drawn to projects where you have to show your intent clearly, and usually without all the presumptious preamble. I also took it as an excuse to dig into my Castlevania fanboy bag of tricks.

This is the soundtrack for the mini-game Brocken, developed by Anders Ekermo for the game jam The Room. Participants would design a single-screen game, with predetermined controls and entrances / exits, and their contributions would be combined into one big Flash game called SoManyRooms. Neat idea.

Oh, and the original was just over 2 minutes long, so it's been "de-looped" with some new stuff.

Brocken Soundtrack

Two hundred billion years ago, I helped out on a track by Radix (Mosaik these days) called "Gone Fishing," which he graciously released as a collab. It had this delicious, laid-back flavor that was the combination of his uncanny sense of harmony and my insistence that "the drums gotta pop, man."

This song is very much an exploration of that musical space, with a robust, chunky drum groove supporting a bouncy, sparkling bed of interesting melodical twists and turns. I really like it, and dedicate it fully to Jakob / Mosaik who's always inspired me to write better.

The final installation of the "Robot Trilogy" of Candela demos. In this restoration, I really wanted to just up the fidelity of the mix, and not poke around too much in the original MIDI. Well, I may have fixed a drum fill or two...

The demo itself, if somewhat rough around the edges, really felt like the culmination of the formula we established with Fair Play To The Queen, but with a proper ending. Always nice.

Etch-A-Sketch

Originally released in 2006 under a different (and somewhat silly) name, this track was really only meant as a jam session; I was in a temporary apartment, without my speakers, and just had to get it out of my system. The main riff just had something that stayed with me. 

The original mix was terrible, so I decided to remake it. Also, I'll take any excuse to edit drum fills in shuffle feel. It's like cruise control for cool.
