Silver, Splice and Prophecy make up Manchester’s finest, North Base. After cuts on Viper Recordings, Hospital Records, Shogun Audio, New State Music, and more, they return to hometown imprint Nemesis Recordings for the release of the Waiting EP, six booming and blasting tunes which are sure to rock their way through 2016 and beyond.
After a succession of remixes for Ms Dynamite, Laidback Luke, SL2 and others, North Base have been supported by the likes of Skrilliex, Sub Focus, MistaJam and Matrix & Futurebound to name a few. Diverse and high quality throughout, the Waiting EP is set to stun.
Down System leads things off, warming things off with an ominous, creeping intro and tougher than leather electronic kicks. Fans old and new will appreciate the sound of this one, as it makes the perfect start to this dynamic EP. Next is Now We’re Talkin, which continues the vibe, with some nice keyboard melodies flowing over the top of the drums. Taking cues from influences like Daft Punk and Andy C, this one firmly has the North Base Stamp all over it.
How Do I Know is the third track, which take a more contemplative and soulful path, with mournful female vocals flowing over a rolling break. Something for all the liquid soldiers out there, this one is really something special. Strings and chords move in and out of the mix, resulting in a track of perfect balance and emotion. Get locked into Blurred Vision, which draws in elements of the old skool rave sound to give the EP yet another direction. Building up nicely to a smooth main section, this one shows off the boys’ dedication to and knowledge of the music.
Ear Pressure turns things towards the dark side once again, with some seriously heavy bass and vibrating effects. Convulsing, heavyweight basslines run up and down this one, instructing you to move your body and get involved. Closer Inflatable Skies sums things up perfectly, with floating electronics and street-ready beats blended to create something quite beautiful.

Debut Release - Frankee - Firethorn / Pandorum

What better way to launch a fresh faced label than with a fresh faced artist? Frankee’s first collaborative release came last year, a track produced alongside Basher and released on Ram Records. ‘Nevada’ was a standout on Basher’s ‘Transmission’ album, and now Frankee is ready to unleash his exciting solo debut.

‘Firethorn’ leads the way with a haunting intro that gradually builds and grows, demanding your attention as it progresses. As the twinkling melodies and echoed percussive elements fade away the tension is broken with a huge bassline and rolling breakbeats that pummel you from head to toe. This is undoubtedly a debut worthy of the very best, a debut that will have heads turning and bodies dancing whenever it’s dropped.

Flip over and ‘Pandorum’ takes you to an altogether deeper and darker place. A staple of label boss Andy C’s DJ sets for some time now, this track is packed with visceral energy that threatens to rip you apart with its incredible bass. With a nod to the sci-fi era of D&B, this track is as much about rinsing the dance floor as it is about creating an atmosphere.

Having been off the radar for a few years we welcome back to the drum and bass world the massive sounds Cynematic. Hailing from Moscow, Russia. Known for their classic seminal tracks such as ‘Daytona’ and ‘Space City’ on Viper Recordings and countless features and with key artists in the game like Manchester’s North Base with ‘Polarity’ which hit number 9 in the UK iTunes Dance Chart.

When we say Cynematic are back, they are back with belter of a track. Smooth warming intro with beautiful soundscapes and atmospheric pads is what’s on the menu for tonights’ listening pleasure.

An epic build up of dreams and consciousness come crashing down info a frenzy once this bad boy drops, whilst the heated drum pattern and warm rumbling bass takes centre stage as the continuous sounds keep running through your mind.
