This was the mini-mix I recorded for Natalie's show which contains a selection of original and remix tracks that I have produced under the moniker 'Juan Tellez'. This is a 24-bit WAV given freely to say thanks to everyone who has followed me on here and has shown support for my musical journey so far. I'm pretty stoked and privileged to be able to do what I do and share what I truly love :o).

While looking for a track to give away after reaching 1,000 followers, I stumbled upon this tune that I'd totally forgot about. At the time I started it, I got a bunch of modular samples and decided to make a simple bleepy loop-based tune out of them. This is the result. It's not really the kind of techno I'm focusing on producing right now, so I thought I'd give it away and hopefully people might like and even play it somewhere. I haven't even played it out yet haha! Enjoy and much love!!

Juan Tellez - Modulate (Original Mix) [FREE DOWNLOAD]

Due to popular demand, this set is a very quick re-record of the set I played at the Coco Poco Loco Pink Party on the Thursday night. It captures the full tracklist and also the approximate BPM as I remember it. Although it's not the original (which wasn't recorded), it gives you an idea of what I played (i.e. what I got away with haha!) from 12am-1:30am. The experience of playing on the art-car was incredible (the thing was literally rocking the whole time!) and I'll never forget being surrounded 360 degrees by a sea of Pink People going nuts to proper techno. This uploaded set was recorded using Traktor and an NI S4 Controller, so please excuse the levels at times :oP.

This is my application mix to DJ at Rainbow Serpent Festival's 20th year anniversary. Since moving to Australia, this festival has been a special part of my life and I've been blessed to have played three times in the theme camp area over the last two years.

This track actually references the accessible toilet near the urinal by Panorama Bar in Berlin, affectionately nicknamed 'the presidential suite'. I made it two years ago or so and feel like it's now time to give it away for free. I hope you enjoy!

The Temple (Dub version) - A mesmerising reduced through-line that tugs at you like an undertow. Strong without being forceful, compelling without being in your face, quick jabs and stuttering stabs leaving no marks or scars, just sore legs and throbbing feet. 

Dawn - is a soaring opus, full of feeling. Open and minimal, deep and complex, infused with contradiction, sending the spirt on a journey at the same time as tugging at the emotional body. A track of wonder and beauty bound to resonate with dj’s who yearn for potent journey material.

This new 4 track session is the third Juan Tellez release on Melbourne’s Machine Label. Featuring Tellez’ signature production characteristics: clean, crisp and direct. This one makes no attempt at hiding it’s purpose. Designed for the techno dance floor, each track delivers something compelling and unique.

Filter 1 - Incessant percussive synth, clean, powerful drums and enormous breakdown. Flying at 2am.

Filter 2 - Stripped and cool, interspersed with sci-fi elements and surprising underbelly of sub bass. A creeper and shoe gazer for 5am.

Heatwave - Dabbling drops of morse code, syncopated drifting drum action and emphatic wet claps amidst growing insistent swirling reverberation. Shuffling at 6am.

Honeypot (Synth Mix) - And then out of nowhere came the morning and with it the overture to the floor. Rising all the way until somewhere along the way we’re in raptures. We’ll let this one speak for itself.

Juan Tellez - Filter 1 (Original Mix)

This interview and DJ set took place on 3/4/18. It was Matic's final show before moving to Europe and I was fortunate enough to be the last guest. 

The first part of the show is us talking about some influential tracks (four, I think) in relation to my musical journey on the techno and electro tip. The mix starts around 31:30, goes from electro to techno, and was recorded via a Pioneer mixer and 3 CDJs. This recording is from the radio stream also. 

It was a super fun time and big ups to Carlos and Kiss FM for having me on there :o).

A stripped back, experimental, ambient remix of Perverse's 'Despair'. 

The idea behind this piece was to bring out the sadness in the tune by changing its key, while retaining a recognisable amount of the original samples. Also, the track was arranged in an organic and largely unquanitized fashion, written at 170bpm.

Bio:

Growing up in the mid 90’s rave scene in Nelson, New Zealand, Juan became hooked on the sounds of Hardcore, and then found his soul in the form of Jungle and D&B. He then amassed a formidable vinyl collection and subsequently DJ’d around NZ in clubs such as Bath St in Dunedin, and the infamous Fu Bar in Auckland.

His subsequent move into production saw several D&B/170bpm tunes released under the ‘Tellez’ moniker, yet it was an experiment into the techno genre around 10 years ago which prompted an entire musical shift into the current 4/4 output of ‘Juan Tellez’. His versatility as a DJ and producer sees him playing and producing across the spectrum of techno (and occasionally minimal/tech), usually leaning towards a darker yet uplifting, atmospheric and grittier sound.

Based in Melbourne since 2013, Juan has found his Australian techno home on the highly regarded Machine label and performed regularly in clubs and festivals around Australia, New Zealand and overseas. Select events include Rainbow Serpent Festival, Dragon Dreaming Festival, Luminate Festival, End of the Line, and Off the Radar, as well as numerous club nights in Melbourne for outfits such as Machine, Bunker, and stranger. Strong support for his techno releases has been seen from the likes of Richie Hawtin, DJ Hell, Thomas Schumacher, Amotik, and many more...
