Breaking through with his Stamina EP in 2016, Juan Tellez has continued to refine a sound imposing with a drive and majesty guaranteed to attract the attention of dj’s and dance floors in Australia and beyond. 

The Temple - Powerful pulsating bass laden kicks and squelching scything synth callouts direct from the Australian bush. Synthetic tech somehow alive and bristling with all the organic warmth of sunset. 

The Temple (Dub version) - A mesmerising reduced through-line that tugs at you like an undertow. Strong without being forceful, compelling without being in your face, quick jabs and stuttering stabs leaving no marks or scars, just sore legs and throbbing feet.

Title track ‘Mercurial Skin’ sees new life via Ellen Allien’s ‘Remix 2’ as the BPitch Control boss lays down eerie synths amongst bumping bass licks, whilst Reeko’s remix of ‘Brother’ ups the energy and channels the track’s intense vocals to deliver an ominous peak time offering. Benjamin Damage’s remix of ‘Mouais’ combines rich organic percussion and sweeping atmospherics, whilst Sodeyama’s hypnotic version of the track offers up a spellbinding five-and-a-half minute journey through pockets of space and serenity.

Bio:

Growing up in the mid 90’s rave scene in Nelson, New Zealand, Juan became hooked on the sounds of Hardcore, and then found his soul in the form of Jungle and D&B. He then amassed a formidable vinyl collection and subsequently DJ’d around NZ in clubs such as Bath St in Dunedin, and the infamous Fu Bar in Auckland.

His subsequent move into production saw several D&B/170bpm tunes released under the ‘Tellez’ moniker, yet it was an experiment into the techno genre around 10 years ago which prompted an entire musical shift into the current 4/4 output of ‘Juan Tellez’. His versatility as a DJ and producer sees him playing and producing across the spectrum of techno (and occasionally minimal/tech), usually leaning towards a darker yet uplifting, atmospheric and grittier sound.

Based in Melbourne since 2013, Juan has found his Australian techno home on the highly regarded Machine label and performed regularly in clubs and festivals around Australia, New Zealand and overseas. Select events include Rainbow Serpent Festival, Dragon Dreaming Festival, Luminate Festival, End of the Line, and Off the Radar, as well as numerous club nights in Melbourne for outfits such as Machine, Bunker, and stranger. Strong support for his techno releases has been seen from the likes of Richie Hawtin, DJ Hell, Thomas Schumacher, Amotik, and many more...
