There's a fascinating movement taking place in electronic music. For a while, last year, it seemed like everyone was trying to make the nastiest track possible. Now, it seems like melody is making a comeback in a big way. One of the producers spearheading this new era is Crywolf. The young and talented producer, originally from the Piedmont region of North Carolina, not only crafted the track, but lending his delicately haunting vocals to the cut. And Ianborg, who's no stranger to collaborations--chief among them with Bronze Whale--joins in to cement the gorgeous tones with thrilling builds and emphatic climaxes. This collaboration will be included on Crywolf's new EP which is slated for an April release on Le Castle Vania's Always Never Records.

I went pretty minimal on this one, no hi-hats, and pretty much no drums actually, just a kick and much later into the track a snare comes in.....There was something about the simple repetitive 2 note melody hits and chords I landed on that just seemed to work without needing anything much else, well hopefully it works for other people too and not just me. It's been going down really well in the clubs at least, it seems to make people clap for some reason, maybe because it's so simple and kick focused rhythmically, it's got a bit of a marching stomp feel.

I stripped out most of the parts from the original, and focused on the great pads and vocal sweeps, which seemed to lead to the melodic idea somehow. It was one of those remixes which flowed nice and easily, not too much conscious thought required, I just let it flow out.

DJ Sol comes from a background spanning 3 generations of musicians, so the music is definitely in his blood. Growing up in Los Angeles in the late 70s and early 80s, Sol found inspiration in the newly-emerging hip-hop sound of that era (e.g. Kurtis Blow, Grandmaster Flash and Afrika Bambaataa) - a style that became the impetus for a DJ career that now spans three decades. He first started DJing small parties in the late 80s but eventually relocated to San Francisco in the early 90’s to get involved the emerging underground house and breakbeat music scene. At this point he began aggressively pushing his DJ'ing career and by 1998 he was playing at many of the biggest clubs and underground parties in San Francisco.

The style of music he spins is an eclectic combination of House, Breaks, Hip-Hop, Mash-up's & NuFunk. He's shared billings with notable DJ’s such as Mark Farina, Miguel Migs, Andy Caldwell, Jeno, Derrick Carter, Stanton Warriors and Plump DJs to name a few. He recently just finished a 10 year run of the popular bi-monthly party VIVID in San Francisco and is also a member of the Space Cowboys playing their biggest events including Burning Man, Halloween’s Ghost Ship party on Treasure Island and the infamous SF New Years Day party Breakfast of Champions.

DJ Sol's Chicken 'n Waffles RIPEcast

This is the audio mix for an hour long audio/visual project that I did with JacobEyE (www.jacoballtrades.com).  We were hired to make the audio/visual mix representing a souls journey through the "Stargate Portal".  It is projected into the circular portal screen of a 3-D LED wall sculpture that encloses as stairwell in the popular nightclub, Temple SF.

Temple Step. Music Producer, DJ, Sound Healer and Ceremonial Alchemist has been honing his craft in music for over 32 years. During this time he has had multiple collaborative producers groups, performed around the globe, shared countless Ecstatic Dance and Festival Sets, Co-developed Motiv Music, his music production business and Ecstatic Dance Melbourne.
 
His artist intention is to create transformative music that empowers, moves emotion and creates connection. His multicultural indigenous influences and diverse electronic music genres take the listener on a journey throughout planetary cultures and beyond.
 
To create this, Temple Step collaborates with sacred world musicians, vocalists and neo shamans from around the globe including Ape Chimba, Deya Dova, Desert Dwellers, Kalya Scintilla, Nessi Gomes, Darpan, Tahir Qawwal, Peruquois, Dysphemic, Ganga Giri, Murray Kyle, Kaliash Kokopelli, Raio, and Joony Joon.
