Levi Nicoll (aka L Nix) is no stranger to the bass music scene with releases spanning a decade. Hailing from Nelson BC Canada Levi started the craft in 2005. For a long time junglist it was natural to start with drum and bass and took to it with passion. It was about 2008 when L Nix heard the true inviting nature of dubstep and has been releasing it in one form or another. Whether it via the duo Orbatak or solo most of the dubstep was much more distorted, harder and heavy bass related production. It was roughly 2012 when L Nix made the change into the more intelligent and mature deep dark sounds that reminded him of the older days of drum & bass, speed garage and two-step, the main influences of his from years past. Levi runs A&R at Iron Shirt Recordings is currently signed to these labels : Iron Shirt Recordings, Vinyl Vigilance, Southside Dubstars UK and Really Good Recordings.

“This album revolves around the theme of rebirth and self-discovery in the face of challenges. The inspiration for this concept came from a meaningful conversation I had with my dad during a health incident I experienced in 2020. He shared with me the idea of hitting the reset button after going treatment, and that conversation ignited the idea of embracing a brand new beginning in life.

I wrote this album centered around the journey of a character I created named “Napo”. Each individual song takes on the role of a chapter, as he explores a new world and confronts the obstacles that lie within his adventure. I wrote this album in order to create a new world, encompassing the story that I wanted to tell.”- Floret Loret

Combining infectious rhythms and swollen, emotive textures, Arkansas-based producer Jonteal puts an interesting approach to modern low-end design in his third EP, Mezmerize. His poignant synthesis and compositional command blend into a purée of pure mood music.

The combination of tracks on Mezmerize give it a wide berth for a double sided release; the arrangements are extremely fluid, with tendrils of influence from glitch and psychedelic music reflected with soothing twists. The mid-range patches and tones are smoothed around the edges, trading a soft bite for a large impact.

Jonteal’s diverse use of stereo space allows every melody and rhythm to shine in synchronicity. Bright, precision percussion and thumping downbeats are the workhorse of both tracks, matching up with the movements of each bass line with whipcord ferocity. The mingling of that ferocity and an abundance of atmospheric movement define Jonteal as a forward thinking musician, and highlight a deep affinity for structure and tonal relationships. The powerful undercurrent of those relationships is what gives Mezmerize it’s lasting impact.
