Helena Hauff - Spur

I’m a Cliché is proud to present a self-titled mini-LP by Stiletti-Ana aka Ilari Larjosto, a figurehead of Helsinki's underground. 

What are the man’s credentials, you ask? Well, Larjosto is a drummer, producer, session musician for multiple bands and a mixing, mastering and recording engineer for countless projects. He's dedicated his whole life to music making and sound engineering in its all forms. Truly an omnipresent figure in the Helsinki underground, he's got his finger on pretty much every button in the world of Scandinavian electronic music while he sits in the control room of his dungeon studio on a fortified island off the Finnish capital's coast.

The man’s involved in many popular projects such as K-X-P, Tähtiportti, DJ Candle in The Wind, Jimi Tenor, Randy Barracuda, and acclaimed band JESSE.

He’s tasked renowned media artist Harri Larjosto (who by pure coincidence happens to be his father) to direct the video for Universe Carrier, the opening track on the mini-LP.

Tel Aviv’s Red Axes are back on I’m a Cliché for the second instalment in their ongoing SHEM series.

On this EP, four tracks that take different directions to reach the duo’s signature sound while expanding the horizons of their already impressive production abilities.

OH KEY
Guitars, live percussion, synths and keyboards: this track is a throwback to Red Axes’ early sound. With a hazy, slightly narcotic atmosphere thanks to the dance-inducing rhythm section and swirling guitar melodies, this is a fine piece of underwater surf rock whose potential in a club context must 
not be underestimated.

First mix at Trushmix this year is by DJ Suhaid straight outta Budapest, Hungary.

What would have become of D.A.F. if they had been signed to Trojan instead of Mute back in the day? Add a good pinch of absurdism and social realism in the vein of prized film director Roy Andersson and Vanligt Folk might just be the answer. The Gothenburg group’s name can be translated to ’common people’ and they make use of primitive electronics, drums and skewed vocals - ranging from harsh social commentary to the purely nonsensical - to create their own take on body music. ’Hambo’ is the name of a traditional Swedish folk dance that was highly popular among the common people at the turn of the last century. With this album, Vanligt Folk juxtaposes the working class dance phenomena of Hambo with modern day rave culture. This is done in the most blasphemous manner thinkable, as is the way of Vanligt Folk. Concepts like nationalism, race and tradition are all treated with the same merry lack of reverence. The only thing that needs to be respected is The Dance and those who take part in it, whether accompanied by accordions or drum machines. Or both. 

This album is a collaboration between Kontra-Musik and DJ veteran Rivet’s label Kess Kill.
