Thundercat -  For Love I Come

The Terrorhythm Elements Series continues into it's second episode, "Sodalite" with two hybrid Grime outings from Los Angeles resident Patrick Brian. Having previously released on Terrorhythm as one half of production duo Varsity with Colta, this is Patrick's debut outing as a solo artist on the label.&#13; TS 01 was initially picked up by Plastician after he heard it among other tracks on an episode of the LA beat cypher - Team Supreme. Initially only a minute long, this futuristic and almost techno spin on the old 8 bar grime sound of the early noughties pricked Plastician's ears right away, given his part in playing such a pivotal role in that very sound, he felt it was perfect for Terrorhythm and requested an extended edit for the Elements Series.&#13; TS 02 came about when Patrick Brian started the extended edit - opening up the original file and remixing it to create a more complex structure of the sounds. Where TS 01 is poised to feature in pirate radio sets with MC's, TS 02 flips the script and gives the release some club credentials.&#13; Paired with the stunning art from Sean Knowles, Terrorhythm deliver a stellar release from Patrick Brian worth far more than the free price tag they've slapped on it!

We wanted to build the concept of this mini compilation around the 'kitchen', as it is very often regarded as the 'soul' of the house, where a large portion of daily activities actually take place. Whether it's preparing food, grabbing a quick snack from the fridge, or simply having a coffee with a mate over an extended countertop, its function does seep quite deeply into how we live. So for this holiday season (if you are having one), we thought it's rather appropriate to curate and share with you a mini compilation of music from our artists and affiliates - A compilation that would hopefully provide and enhance the environment for those who might be preparing that festive feed for loved ones and friends. 

After all, music is that one true universal language that injects positivity and good energy.

We officially introduce you to our newest family member, Sam Gellaitry. Setting the stage for his first EP, 'Short Stories' (2/17/15), Sam shares single, "Temple", foreshadowing what's to come on his long-awaited 5-track EP.

With initial sounds of the phone ringing off the hook and a dreamy synth progression on "Temple", Sam ropes you in and then immediately hits the listener with an automatic headbanger all whilst maintaining a dreamy and steadily uptempo vibe.

This young man of 18 years is from Stirling, [central] Scotland - where the "culture" part of the wiki section reads one line. Culture in the form of music however, is plentiful and diverse in Sam's case – drawing on influences from Madlib and Jamiroquai to Flying Lotus, Röyksopp, Hudson Mohawke, Mr. Carmack and Outkast. By the time Sam was 16, he'd learned to engineer and master audio which might shed some light on his unique song structure and diverse journey through many genres apparent in the course of one single track. 

Sam marries his love and knowledge of bass guitar, synthesizer and piano with honed production skills to create seamless heavy hitting electronic music that retains raw instrumental elements and evokes a certain happiness and soulful connectedness. With a father who has a background in making bagpipes among other talents and Mum - a former in a band member playing guitar and singing it's really no surprise that Sam's magical ears give him the ability to translate 5+ genres seamlessly into one beautiful song or 'Short Story'.

'Short Stories' defies traditional notions of what it is to create 'electronic music' traveling through uptempo house, UK-garage, heavy bass, hip hop and soul - in 5 succinct stories.

Next up on Modern Ruin is one of the most exciting artists to emerge in the past year.

Hailing from Leeds, we have Breaka with 'Express Your Groove'. 

We kick off with 'Pull and Release' - a tempered footwork jungle crossover expedition peppered with ethereal female vocal chops. 
A haunting mid range accompanies tuned 808s and melodies, pulling and releasing the listener into and from the track as and when intended.

Next up is 'The Mistake'. Breakbeats and a vicious stab set the tone for the rest of the track, but Breaka switches things up with a 
dutty half time groove. The classic hoover bass makes a return in the latter parts of this track and a melodic hook sees 'The Mistake' out to the end. 

Title track 'Express Your Groove' is next. Sampling Wish and Fonda Rae's 'Touch Me', one can be forgiven for thinking this is a tribute to Machinedrum's 'Heavy Weight',
where instead we're treated to a frenetic breakbeat expedition in what can only be described as an effective expression of groove - truly a standout.

Longtime Modern Ruin afictionado and conspirator Itoa returns with a remix of 'The Mistake', and in classic fashion, 'The Mistake' becomes a percussive 
and minimal experiment, which sees out Breaka's fantastic and comprehensive release to the end.
