Mattiv - Formula One (VIP)

Mtwn, two brothers from a small town in east Belgium, made a mark with several high quality releases between 2012-2014 on labels such as Break-Fast Audio, Dispatch Limited, Proximity Recordings, Samurai Music and of course Diffrent Music.

After a short bit of quiet time, the guys are back with their strongest work to date, a 6 track EP featuring recently completed tunes that span from 2012-2015, with three new solo tracks, two collaborations with Arkaik one which also features work from Dexta & Mauoq and a VIP edit of 'Tech9' which was the flip to their 2013 single on Diffrent Music.

The EP is being released as a limited edition, hand painted and numbered CD package, followed by the digital download bundle via BandCamp and all other decent download stores.

Our first outing on the main Dispatch label in 2016, we are pleased to welcome back Nymfo for his debut EP; a fearsome four tracker entitled ‘Marching Machines’.

The EP succeeds two superb singles from the Dutchman, with an infectious style that catches us every time; uncompromising on the lower frequencies, but always funk induced; controlled technical mid ranges are used strictly to facilitate the groove; never excessive or superfluous.

Nymfo combines forces with label stalwart DLR on opening track ‘Affliction’, which true to its title, inflicts its deadly scourge from the off, with flashing sirens giving an air of anarchy and disorder; developing throughout, with ultra-crisp drums pattering and shifting over.

Up next is ‘Forward Motion’, which sees Nymfo collaborate with the mighty Total Science for the very first time, in a tantalizingly dark manner. Pushing the speakers to the threshold, the bassline carries through with formidable force, as vocal snippet ‘Forward’ echoes atop.

Following on, is title track ‘Marching Machines’, setting the tone for the EP as mechanical whirrs murmur over playful, skipping drum work. Equipped with carefully selected samples, the track combines numerous elements, whilst offering space in all the right spaces to reach its goal.

Last but certainly not least, ‘Pitchfork’ completes the EP, since first featuring in his Radio 1 mix back in August. Paying homage to the ‘Wormhole’ sound of the 90s, Nymfo gives his own distinctive future twist to a classic style; increasing the intensity, but retaining all the groove.

Continuing an impressive start to 2016 on Dispatch LTD, our next instalment comes from the other side of the Atlantic, as Seattle based Quadrant collaborates with Canadian producer NC-17. 

Comprised of three tracks, each artist demonstrates their own technical prowess and Quadrant’s familiar super tight rolling drums are met by NC-17’s tactful sub bass manipulation. 

An almighty fusion of forces sets the release off – ‘Dub Central’ is a merciless assault; a regular feature in the sets of DLR & Ant TC1, it is immaculately crafted for the dancefloor. 

In a solo effort, NC-17 goes deep to give us ‘Only One Way Out’ –  a weighty roller and certified weapon for any discerning sound system; a lethal journey into the lower frequencies.

For the final track, the duo return together in ‘Living a Lie’. Concrete drum work combines with heavy bassline pressure, as light atmospherics contrast to break up the intensity.

A tight manifesto is stretched across the 4 rowdy and high-energy tracks that make up the EATBRAIN GOES TO LET IT ROLL, with the irresistible audio manipulative skills of Eatbrain crafted to exquisitely tear up the dance. A reflection in sound of the perfect marriage between one of the best contemporary neurofunk labels and one of the most impressive live spaces that exists for drum and bass.

If you've locked onto one of Erb N Dub's streamed studio sessions, then you'll have witnessed a producer who revels in the craft of music-making. And that sense of musicianship comes through whether he's in front of a DAW, behind a real live drum-kit as part of Wicked City or delivering a furiously scratch-laden DJ set. It's the musician's symbiosis of the technical and the artistic that means an Erb N Dub production is always innovative and frequently unexpected.

This time round, in “Speak & Spell”, he commandeers that eponymous Texas Instruments sound and bends it to his will. Right from the beginning, a repeated “Danger” sample over falling arpeggios and ominous strings lay down a warning of an explosion to follow. Then the build is dominated by a Speak & Spell countdown that's going to make this tune instantly recognisable whenever it's dropped.

Even though the iconic voice synth sound is deployed to great effect, there's a lot more going on in this track than that. Erb N Dub flexes some heavyweight production skills to bring us huge stomping drums and chest-reverberating basslines that make this a dancefloor killer. Then there's the dark journey that the arpeggios take us on, and the sinister presence of the atmospheric strings.

Erb N Dub has taken the classic Speak & Spell sound and used it to guide the rave through a dangerous sonic mission, fraught with fire and impact. It's another example of this producer's dedication to his art and his skills and another reason why we should all be paying close attention to what he does next.

Inspired by the likes of The Prodigy, Noisia, Bad Company UK, and Black Sun Empire, NickBee started producing drum & bass at age 15. One year later he began learning to mix. Within 3 months, he was debuting his skills in clubs. Flash forward five years and countless hours sitting at his PC, NickBee is a rising star in the European drum and bass scene. As a young producer, Nickbee has collaborated with the likes of Enei and Billain, while releasing music on highly respected labels like Horizons Music, Close 2 Death, Modulate Recordings, Dispatch, and Tamrecords. An impressive record for a 21 year old. Oh - and he's got forthcoming material on Bad Taste and Noisia's Invisible imprint, to boot. With one foot set in the future and another amongst neurofunk DNB's architects, Nick's trademark sound is not easily classified. Morphing, animalistic basslines project through sonic space in perfectly organized chaos, with structure provided by painfully sharp drums. Never conforming to any set mold, Nickbee's allegiance to innovation makes a quirky, experimental element a defining factor of his music. Perhaps most impressive is the young artist's mastery of next-level sound design, which is never forced or overdone; only tastefully applied in careful amounts, always striking that perfect balance of hi-tech and low-fi.

T>I, one of a handful of producers responsible for bringing raw 90’s vibes back to drum & bass without following the same old route of ‘back to the old school’. If you know your upfront drum and bass or not, you will have most certainly heard plenty of T>I’s tracks being supported by most if not all of the A list DJ circuit. Virtual record boxes have continued to be stocked with dubplate after dubplate by one of the hardest working producers our scene has seen for years.

Don’t get it twisted, this isn’t a ragga jungle explosion with a plethora of Amen beats - this is pure rolling sublow drum and bass and it’s coming in not one but two parts! Sample spotters hold tight.

High energy beats and bass combined with mid 90’s production influences are in abundance. Top scale bass lines that flip the script from ‘Changes’, deep and dark vibes in the form of ‘Hammerhead’ and music to make even the stiffest of ravers shuffle in the form of ‘Watcha Man’. This EP has it all and it’s taking no prisoners.

‘Circuits’ is being released as two separate EP’s, part one incoming 10th June followed by part two later on 24th June. Watch out for a bonus track from the album which is soon to be offered as a free download via the Serial Killaz Soundcloud. This is a massive package and certainly not one to sleep on.
