Our next guest JM Croce is a Buenos Aires-based electronic producer and designer and one of the founders of our beloved Santa Sede label. He released tracks and sets with Not A Sine, No Future Berlin, T.A.U and also produced music under other aliases. 

Featuring tracks from Santa Sede and other labels such as Tratratrax, Cumbia Tu Mente, VOAM, Rebote Discoteca, Volquete, NAAFI, Delsin, NoFuture Berlin, AGVA and more, Santa Sede’s showcase delivers a mixtape that goes through different genres and styles marked by latin sensibilities, from cumbia to gabber, reggaetón, post reggaetón, techno, zangoloteo and guaracha, surfing different aesthetics from classic to experimental.

Some of the tracks are from ANARKBELLAKX Vol. 2 the new V/A album by Santa Sede which released on November 24 as the label’s last big release of the year 2023.

Chapultepec (“grasshopper hill” in Nahuatl) has been a vital part of Mexico City for almost 600 years. A hydraulic marvel designed by the texcocan Tlatoani Nezahualcóyotl to work as a lung in one of the biggest cities on the planet. 

Throughout 19 tracks Lao explores the imaginative and timeless possibilities of Chapultepec in the form of deep melodies, organic textures, and tribal percussive patterns influenced by Jungle and Rave. The album is a homage to CDMX, the Mexican electronic music scene, and its dancefloor for the last 15 years.

The name Xiao Quan sparks a question mark and confuses tons of listeners. His nationality, cultural background and behaviour are topics that everyone who knows him for the first time want to talk about. Those are also the themes he is more than happy to play with in his music. In fact, he has lived in Shenzhen, China for two years, when Oil Club wasn‘t even open.

Cultural symbols from Asia and Africa have appeared more and more frequently in world’s art scenes in recent years, although the status of self-consumption in content and consumption by the Western world is still unchangeable in a short time. As a producer from São Paulo, Xiao Quan’s "Connection" EP uses a generalized and concrete way to create cultural symbols as he operates them and make them sound normal and casual, which is impossible for many original creators of culture, especially in mainland China, which is almost derailed from its tradition now. Xiao Quan is just like us (Chinese people and producers), absorbing and using a large amount of information from around the world.

"Connection" EP is undoubtedly based on the Xiao Quan-style black humor, and the connection with the Asian and African culture he deeply loves. Unlike in the past, he really participated as a member of Asian culture through FunctionLab this time. From the first sound of "Rolling Barrel”, like the sound of a dragon coming out of the fog, drums from Asia and Africa came through and wore it to the end, warm and obscure. Does the rough Chinese vocal sample appearing in the track puzzle you? This is the voice that Xiao Quan doesn't understand very much but crazy in love with. The fun is self-evident. As for elaborate arrangements and superb production techniques, these have never been the case for Xiao Quan.
