Belgium’s Erratic - a.k.a. Jan Robbe - drops a wonderful five tracker on Acre Recordings. Robbe, whose own label Entity specialises in intricate IDM-fused downtempo work, has presented us with a perfectly realised vision of his own: Downward Echoes. This is sublime glitched-out electronica, infused with coruscating microscopic rhythms, yet which is ameliorated by the heavy and present dub-inspired bass lines. Atomic sounds vie for attention with a suffusion of lush pads and haunting alien soundscapes, creating satisfying and highly visual tensions. This interplay between the micro and the macro is deeply beguiling but this isn’t chin-strokey IDM. Rather it is warm, undeniably welcoming and just a little bit catchy! This is sterling music for the synaesthetic.

The full 7 minute arrangement splits into 2 movements - the 1st part is an explosive collection of percussive sounds, arp-ing synthesisers and guitar drones, before moving into a more hypnotic rhythmic section that showcases Luo’s production skill, Sam Hughe’s skill in dynamics, and also some live brass arrangement. The whole production is so clean, but yet so deep and vibrant, allowing the listener to indulge in the intricacies on multiple listens. 

Luo is the alias of Brighton based electronic musician Josh Trinaman - a talented producer and engineer who’s work has seen critical acclaim from the likes of Huw Stephens on Radio 1, Clash Magazine, Notion + more. 
Having built his name as a solo performer (supporting the likes of Death Grips and Venetian Snares), Luo has now transcended into a full 4-piece live group to expand the compositions into new territories. This new version of ‘In The Dark’ (which originally featured on the ‘Imprints EP’ in 2013) features the live drum talent of Sam Hughes, an insanely talented performer who’s style integrates gospel understanding with the characteristics of forward thinking electronic music.

Departure is the debut album from Connecticut based producer (ghost). Rooted firmly at electronic music's crossroads where electronic pop, early artificial intelligence era 'Warpisms' and experimental electro intersect Departure follows a thinly structured concept in which a protagonist, possibly (ghost) himself(?), escapes a type of confinement in search of freedom or immunity. Wholly optimistic but not without it's moods of trepidation that such flight might yield, (ghost) greets the listener with engaging melodies, swabs of skittering electro backbeats and the occasional soulful guitar phrase all to great effect.
