Among them was an album for my band Bath. We recorded a 6 song album called Endpoint Fireworshiper and played several shows in that incarnation. We released one of the songs, "Redshot" on 12" vinyl through ArchETyp's 2122 Corporation label under the name 1954. Then we split the release and even some of the tracks into two EPs, Fireworshiper on Andréas Marchal's Vaatican Records and Endpoint on Jon Seven's Timetheory netlabel. The album was never released in its entirety... until now.

TEXTBEAK - LONGFIN

From the Why Be Blake When You Can Be Bleak? compilation on Bleak Records.
"Why be Blake when you can be Bleak?" is a compilation featuring not only netlabel artists, but also contributions from renowned artists from the Industrial/Experimental genres, and plain legends from the early 80's Industrial scene.

The compilation strives to provide a "cause and effect" overview of Avantgarde art, especially from the viewpoint of Industrial/Experimental and Electronic music.
All artists have agreed to provide their tracks for free download, which is very uncommon these days, given the fact that non-mainstream artists probably suffer the most from illegal file sharing, and usually hesitate to give away albums for free.

The result is a download package in the size of a 3CD-compilation, containing early unreleased tracks as well as exclusive versions of new material.
The list of contributing artists is a mixture of Industrial dinosaurs and young or new obscure artists from all over the world.

Proving that original, or "old school" Industrial is still as influential and exciting as it has been since the very beginning in the late 70's and early 80's, The Bleak Compilation continues the tradition of compilations like "The Elephant Table Sampler", "Three Minute Symphony" or "Ohrenschrauben/Ohrensausen", presenting a mixture of difficult, at times disturbing and confusing music, totally apart from any mainstream intentions.

The painting on the cover is by Jonathan Canady, an american musician and artist, whose work is so close to what Bleak stands for that we couldn't resist asking him, and we are happy he agreed!

In 1997, too tired to struggle with a locked art market, Julien Mérieau set up an analogue pirate radio station named Radio Mulot / France Museau. The project can be described both as a deviant history of music and a vector of sound manipulations and live experiences, inspired by dadaism, futurism, situationism, and of course industrial music culture, as a practice of reverse engineering and a deconstructive approach to radio media and mass media in general, including the World Wide Web.

The interest for the visual arts is crucial, the transmitter being used just ‘as a pencil’. No radio shows, no jingles, no talk, but instead, chunks of recorded voices, anti-jingles (found sound, etc.), dead writers talking through the voice of mediums, mixed with various soundscapes. The idea is to approach ‘music’ as a dissolving area that reaches and communicates with all kinds of artwork in visual arts, past and present, and the use of Internet and information technology having changed many things within the various forms of ‘music’ including the way to approach it in terms of sound programming.

Rodion Roșca (Rodion GA)
Because of his early experimentation with recording and effects, Rodion is considered the father of electronic music in Romania. In the early 70s, Rodion began experimenting with home recording equipment. In 1977 he formed Rodion GA, with the addition of Gicu Fărcaș and Adrian Căprar. Shockingly for an experimental act, Rodion GA even received radio airplay in Romania during the 80s communist regime of Ceaușescu.

Mark Stewart is an artist, vocalist, producer and songwriter from Bristol. As a founding member of The Pop Group and as a soloist, Stewart has remained an anarchic and pioneering figure since the punk era, a constant source of discordance amongst the frontiers of post-punk, dub, industrial, and electronic music.

In a body of work driven by an explosive form of lyricism and inspired by radical politics, protest movements, theory, philosophy, technology, art, and poetry, Stewart has fearlessly cultivated a revelatory collision of ideas, ideals, and influences throughout an indisputably groundbreaking and seditious career.

Textbeak has quite a history in industrial, and dark electronic and experimental music, influenced heavily by bands like Coil, Cabaret Voltaire, and Skinny Puppy. In 1994, as Bath, he released several albums on Jevan Records. He has since also released music through Cleopatra Records, Moon Sounds, Carlos Perón’s (Yello) Dark Daze Records, Tundra Dubs, 21/22 Corporation, Post Religion, Pale Noir, and Lasergun, and appeared on compilations with artists such as Coil, Sleep Chamber, Konstruktivits, and Portion Control.

DEFA (Benjamin Hartman) has been creating and collaborating on music since the early 90s and has been included on many releases with projects Bath, Textbeak, Mulga, and In The Shadow of the Monolith. His style is deeply rooted in dark, electronic, beat-driven visions and layers of blackened frequencies. This type of sonic dissonance was also a feature on his radio show The Dark Phonic Hour of Power. His latest release Digital Debris can be found at Hexx9 Records’ Bandcamp.

RODION GA X MARK STEWART X TEXTBEAK X DEFA - UN NEBUN

Textbeak has been producing and spinning dark music for a quite a while now. Influenced by artists such as Coil, Cabaret Voltaire, and Skinny Puppy, he started creating music in the late 80s with his longtime friend Todd Sines. Together, they worked on various projects and eventually formed B/Re (Body Release) with Titonton Duvante and Charles Noel. Textbeak (as his project Bath) later signed with Jevan Records (run by Lestat) and recorded with producer Kramer. He has since released solo works under the name Textbeak on various labels.   

Textbeak has performed at numerous events nationally and internationally, opening for notable artists such as Modern English, Merzbow, Nitzer Ebb, The Legendary Pink Dots and Meat Beat Manifesto. He has also remixed tracks for various artists including Archetype (aka Daniel Myer of Haujobb), ∆AIMON, Blush Response and Bestial Mouths. His recent release, Sick For Songs A Season Eats, on Cleopatra Records featured collaborations with Mark Stewart (The Pop Group), John Fryer (This Mortal Coil) and more.  

His latest release VIBROFOLK will be out April 23rd on ClanDestine Records (Glasgow) under the artist name BLOODBEAK🩸
