Soma proudly present the first in an exciting series of releases to celebrate 25 years at the top of electronic music as we turn to some of our favourite modern artists to reinvent some of the best from the back catalogue and up first is Envoy’s timeless classic, Dark Manoeuvres. Originally released as part of the “Coalition EP’ in 1996 (which also featured the classic Seawall), Hope Grant’s instantly recognisable hit is still found in nearly every Techno DJs record box and has continually served as a beacon of Soma since it’s release Four new versions are served up here as Dax J, Norman Nodge, Obscure Shape & SHDW plus Tensal all deliver fine interpretations of this Soma classic.

Dax’s furious style is the opener as he uses the original chords as they were intended but all the time firing his concussive drum patterns directly to the dance floor. Ostgut Ton’s Norman Nodge turns in a delectable dub version in only the way he can by keeping Envoy’s original muted and delivering a subtle, introverted version. The duo of Obscure Shape & SHDW are next up and delivery one epic take on Dark Manoeuvres. The pair build the tension early, teasing the strings then unleashing an onslaught, adding their own beautifully led, string section before hammering home. PoleGroup’s Tensal closes out our first Soma 25 releases, twisting and cutting the hook to suits his means as thunderous beats work away behind this solid tool.

Raffaele Rizzi is proud to release Secret Combination, a collection of two new tracks and a killer of a remix under the Unrilis label. Already successful and well-known at a young age, Rizzi has produced wonders both within and beyond the Neapolitan techno scene after being inspired by artists like of Gabriel Ananda and Rino Cerrone. Brothers Arnd and Daniel Reichow bring their own hard-edged spin into the mix under their name Drumcomplex, earning their moniker well as they utilize sophisticated techniques and stalwart style on their interpretation of the title track. The collection delivers welcome twists and new approaches to the genre, promising to leave a lasting impression of a talent that is only continuing to develop and grow.

UNRILIS029 - Raffaele Rizzi - Total Black - (Original Mix)

Berlin based DJ and producer Len Faki continues his freshly minted LF RMX series with two interpretations of Stephen Brown’s track titled ‘Deep In’ focusing on a no-frills, old-school motif.

Now in its second installment, the LF RMX series serves as a way for Len Faki to share special edits and remixes produced for use in his own DJ sets. Now he’s able to give the tracks a proper release while also giving back to a worthy cause, as all proceeds go to the Berlin organization Straßenkinder e.V. to be used in actions against child poverty. 

‘Deep In (Len Faki Hardspace Mix)’ sees Faki lead with a raw and sripped back approach, much like the original. He then delivers subtle variation that build with boosted percussion, adding breaks and vigorous energy. Booming bass and acid stabs complete the heady track, revealing a sure dancefloor bomb. 

LF RMX 002 is set for release July 24.

The long sets I think are important, because it gives so much freedom musically and Gewölbe is an incredible club to do that.
