“After more than 25 years of active absorption of Drum and Bass music, the pandemic finally scrambled my daily life and cellular imprint enough to clear a path for a solo musical contribution.

Many people that were around in the mid/late ’90s are still living off the charge that the unbridled innovation those few years gave us all. RATS is built on this energy.

RATS is a distillation, refinement, and reconstruction of definitive elements and combinations that have become signals for authenticity in my experiences with the genre and continue to be the backbone of the foundations of this music.

RATS tunes were designed as integral parts of my DJ sets to replace the tunes from the late 90s / early 2000s that I have worn out, but retain their effectiveness with updated production strengths. So far these have worked for me, now it’s time for you to test these and see if I succeeded.

RATS is a love letter to the genre that has come to define my life for a quarter-century.”

For our second installment in ZOO VISITOR mixtape series we have SAMIRAHIM who got so inspired by NEFFA-T @ ZOO4 that they made this mixtape! BIG UP! This is exactly how we want it to go!
WARNING: This hi-energy mix is extremely catchy and can cause heavy leg shaking!

Samirahim started deejaying in 2017, and has since become deeply rooted in the Helsinki underground. Having a long background in classical violin, their sets are often meticulously prepared and curated from thousands of hand-picked tracks. Their style can be characterized by high-energy mixing of various genres and surprising blends. Besides music, Samirahim's interests lie in the field of neuroscience with studies in both capital area universities. They are currently also spearheading the long-standing Hytky collective.

During this spring, Samirahim has been shifting more into the bass-heavy sounds of the UK, something they originally started djaying with. The guestmix is mixed on 3 decks and consists of mostly new selection with a playful focus on grime, dubstep and rowdy refixes.  We can hear the Neffa influences in this mix and we like it a lot. Enjoy!

Hi All, 

Announcing my new upcoming EP “Projection Palace” on my non-label; OMOTT, short for On My Own Terms/ Time. As this is going to be a self release and I'm not sure how many of those there will be and seeing as how I wanted this project to reflect a certain theme, I thought that this actually is the first project I'm doing from a-z. Hence the name for "On My Own Terms/ Time", meaning that while I try to do a 100% what I want and how I want it, I also have to balance it of the back of other jobs/occupations.

Background story:

A1: Projection Palace (Reflections Mix)The title refers to the central theme of the ep which refers to a psychological principle of “projection”, whereby you project certain (negative) qualities onto others without them being necessarily right.
Quite often the projections say a lot more about the person who’s doing the projecting rather than the person on the receiving end. 
This track is a journey, owing to tracks like Massive Attacks’ “Unfinished Sympathy”, trying to make a lot of breaks work together and fuzzy warm Korg sounds.

A2:  the title “Micro Expressions” refers to tiny little behaviours that give away moods and can function as cues as to what is really going on, but then in interpreting these little things we have to rely on projecting what someone else might be feeling. 
The tune itself was simply a bunch of programmed beats from single hits with a upbeat rave stab, some G-funk style strings, a bell melody inspired by old Plaid tunes , a slapping bass and the vocal sample which brings about nostalgic rave vibes .

B1: OIC. 160-jungle-footwork-4/4 track which is all about exploring punk ideas and all the alarms, glitches and bleep textures and boastful bass sounds. The title came from a film called “Breakfast at Tiffanies” and can be heard at various places throughout the track as well as some samples that clearly deal with some form of judgment (everyone expects a bad penny to turn up sooner or later” and “get stuffed”.
Taken from “Frenzy” directed by Alfred Hitchcock).

B2 Projection Palace (Night Terrors Mix)  A reprise from the A1 track, this Night Terrors mix is a rework of the title track.
Higher in tempo, more aggressive, ravey and a true walk down memory lane at it’s darkest.

THA NXXT STEP also known as J.T.R.A.(Justin Theodore Robert Archer) Born in 1986 in Yakosuke, Japan, his tastes of music and culture vary greatly.

A multi-talented artist with varied fields of interest. His music career started off in 2005 when he joined the heavy metal group The Crashing Falcon as their bassist. During the years since, he has filled positions in jazz, funk, country, blues, and rock bands. Because of his history of producing, which he started at the age of 16, he now ventures back into the electronic world. 

After a long two years of holding down the mic for a varied assortment of headliners, JTRA has finally worked his way to being the one behind the decks. Brandishing his style of experimental production mixed with his love for 808 bass, he brings a different flavor of sound.

After dabbling around in different sounds, as well as different social groups, artistic loves, and nerdy obssessions, JTRA realized the symbology of water in co-respondance to life and reality. In addition with his love for the production styles of artists like Eskmo, 
Amon Tobin, and Aquadrop, this ideal became applied to his sound and persona.
After two years of adventuring through his new persona and sound, he and HmL began the quest of defining and creating a style that they have named "Galactic". Be on the look out for universal sounds from this duo.
