“Room with a view” is the new single from Alex Zethson, Swedish keyboard player active in bands such as Angles, VÖ, and Tropiques, and a frequent collaborator of Mariam the Believer, Sven Wunder, Fire! Orchestra and more.  Produced by Zethson and guitarist Anton Toorell (Receptacles, Dammit I’m Mad, Invader Ace) the track is a laidback, country infused instrumental on which well-renowned players Torbjörn Zetterberg (bass) and Konrad Agnas (drums) lay out a stripped-down groove, enriched by Toorell’s sparkling acoustic guitars. On top of it there’s the warm synthorgan-chords and floating MS20-synth lines of Zethson, first addressing a choral-like theme, followed by some passionate solo swirling, perhaps redolent of Alice Coltrane’s infinite organ explorations.

Groove-based free-jazz octet Angles stir up things with their new, ambitious double-LP ”The Death of Kalypso”, duo to be released April 26th. The work – which could be considered a contemporary jazz-opera – mixes irresistible and urgent tunes with scintillating instrumental and improvisational sections. The singing star is Elle-Kari Sander, and an eminent string quartet lift the opus to unseen heights.
'Kalypso in Karlsbad, haunted by dreams’ is stunning piece with baroque-like harmonies and melodies, featuring a beautiful string arrangement by pianist Alex Zethson and an unforgettable vibraphone solo by Mattias Ståhl. Kalypso ages, expressing doubtful yet intense love. Transforming into a young woman in the early 1900s in Karlsbad, she sketches her lover. About 45 years later, a different woman with the same background is pursued by children with whips, beating and spitting.
