Daft Dunk - Get Lucky (FNMs Extended Disco Edit)

I got the opportunity to officially remix this classic song to coincide with the release of a new Donny Hathaway box set. I was given the original multitrack master of the studio version (different from the live version)and it consisted of 8 different instrument and vocal tracks (as opposed to the more usual 24 tracks) 
When I take on a remix, my first goal is to make it work on a current dance floor. I like to stay very close to the originally recorded sound and In most case there's plenty to be reworked on the multitrack master to achieve this. 
This case proved a little different as there were few rhythm elements I could use to fit within current standards of club loudness levels. So I decided to take a slightly different approach, and add a new set of (acoustic) drums,  to bend the original Soul vibe a little towards Disco territory. 
This remix is exclusive to my soundcloud page and free to download as a 16bit WAV file

The Duval Project is a Nu Soul/Jazz and RnB excursion formed by Gary Alesbrook. Influenced by his time playing with artists such as Raphael Saadiq and Lynden David Hall, Gary has formed a quintet with the young trio of electric bassist Richie Blake, drummer Danny Cox and keyboard player Andy Nowak. Gary plays trumpet, flugelhorn and keyboard. A retro approach but with fresh sounds, they also feature the vocals of Marie Lister. Their current E.P was mixed by Grammy Award winning New York sound engineer Russell Elevado.

 The Decoders are at it again with another Rotary Connection cover of a cover, the classic known as "Respect" made famous by the likes of Otis Redding and Aretha Franklin.  This time, they have enlisted the talents of Oakland based chanteuse Mara Hruby (www.marahruby.com) and the illustrious Van Hunt (www.vanhunt.com).  This track will be included on their upcoming full length album release, "Adventures From Paradise: A Tribute To Minnie Riperton" coming out later this year. My biggest struggle as a producer has always been trying to accurately capture the concept / ideas that I hear in my head.
Learning more and more about orchestral arrangements and programming in a DAW sense, has allowed me to ever get closer. 
I decided to rearrange this piece as I have always felt that years ago when I had originally composed this, I lacked the musical maturity, technical expertise (mastering / mixing) or virtual instruments to capture accurately what I was hearing in my head.

Next up on The Reflex’s official vinyl label DISCOLIDAYS is a two tracker fully licensed from Cerrone via Because Music / Malligator featuring first time ever multi remix from the classic ‘Look For Love’ by The Reflex (the original was released on his Cerrone IV album in 1978) b/w a welcome repress of The Reflex revision of ‘Hooked On You’ (Cerrone #1 remix of all Cerrone remixes on Spotify) that was only available on a super limited 12” back in 2015.
Both remixes have been released digitally by Because / Malligator on the ‘Cerrone x The Reflex’ EP last April, and Cerrone generously granted a licence to The Reflex in order to release it officially on his label DISCOLIDAYS second release.
Cerrone loved the remixes so much that both are now integral part of his Live / DJ set and ‘Look for Love’ will be the only remix done by someone else featured on his forthcoming album ‘Cerrone by Cerrone’ which sees the disco legend revisiting his own back catalogue.
The vinyl went straight to the top of Juno Records overall charts on pre-orders alone, the day before its official release date.

For much of the past two decades,  Paris Pompor has been eeking out a living as a freelance music journo, whilst also running the Groovescoooter label. The label began as a radio show on Sydney's Eastside FM back in 1997 (continuing to this day) and in betwixt, Paris has also presented shows on SBS (Alchemy) and FBi (The Album Show). In between regular DJ gigs around town, and hosting his excellent weekly radio show "Jumping the Gap" on Sydney's 2ser, he found time to get busy in the studio for us.
