The Vision EP is the latest instalment from Manchester Drum and Bass duo Aardonyx. After the pair's first release on Nu Venture Records, they are back with a three track EP exploring the different styles and sub genres of Drum & Bass. 

[A] Aardonyx Feat. Emerie  - The Vision:
Opening the EP is the title track The Vision, a bass heavy roller, with beautiful original vocals from the talented artist Emerie. Written while recording vocals in a studio session in Manchester, it encapsulates the fast paced life and drama of a hustle and bustle city. The driving bass propels the track forward, with shifting pads and glass like tones, giving a catchy and memorable depth to this track. The Rhodes piano stays true to the soulful influences of the vocals and adds an additional classic tone alongside the more aggressive synths.

[B] Aardonyx - In The Jungle: 
In the Jungle begins with an intriguing and mysterious half time approach, before progressing into a full on Drum & Bass skank out tune, with squelchy stabs and quick swipes, combined with haunting vocal drones. A diverse and unique track featuring unusual sounds and contrasting vibes that are equally at home alongside the dark rollers or dancefloor bangers.

[C] Aardonyx - Spiral:
For the final track of the EP the Aardonyx pairing experiment with contrasting frantic drums and a laid-back synth hook that creates an edgy, yet positive, atmospheric feel. Expertly utilising percussive synth plucks to elegantly dance around the modulated bass in this uplifting composition. The synth hook evolves throughout to create a different focus for the track, flowing around the intense breaks, as if floating above the rhythm.

For NVR064 Nu Venture Records present a collaborative EP from 2 double NVR release artists Linear & Aardonyx. A project created through the desire to work with other artists and experiment with new sounds, with the end result being the following EP. Aardonyx are on remix duties for NVR055, Linear's 3 track Maze EP, whilst Linear takes on the remixes for NVR052: Aardonyx - To Tulum / The Ghost. Also including a VIP Mix of Linear's track Fundamental Funk.

[A] Linear - Fundamental Funk (VIP Mix):
A long time in waiting Linear's eagerly anticipated VIP mix of Fundamental Funk finally sees the light of day. Turning the track into the dance floor heavyweight that the original always hinted it had the potential to be. Adding more power to the bassline & increasing the high end energy, ensuring there's no waiting around with this freshly rejuvenated track.

[B] Linear - Anthem At Dusk (Aardonyx Remix): 
The introduction begins with light percussion whilst staying true to the arrangement of the original from Linear. At the drop, with a real striking contrast to the more delicate original, a much darker & unrecognisable beast is unleashed. Stuttering haunting pads give prominence to the fast & heavy bass line, all accompanied by gritty growling overtones, which echo the deep & snarly bass notes.

[C] Aardonyx - To Tulum (Linear Remix):
Linear takes the original from the Aardonyx duo & strips it back to its bare bones. Intertwining the melodies & vocals of the original, to create a minimal stepper which builds on it's simple and techy drum patterns throughout.

[D] Linear - Fundamental Funk (Aardonyx Remix):
From the off through the use of a muted drum beat, you can tell the Aardonyx duo have definitely flipped the script on this remix, taking the track in a completely new direction altogether. Complex percussion & melodic pads, compliment & help to create a more rolling feel, while still incorporating the original Linear synths.

[E] Aardonyx - The Ghost (Linear Remix):
Linear's remix of this haunting track sees the young producer show his interpretation of halftime Drum & Bass as he takes on the sub genre for the first time. With a hip hop inspired beat & deep, but saturated rumbling basses, it's a powerful take on the original.

[F] Linear - Maze (Aardonyx Remix):
The final Aardonyx remix bounces along with staccato bass interlaced with sharp growling stabs and sweeps. Maintaining the sound palette of the original but with an increased speed & altered swing to create a fresh take on it. Dark & sinister it showcases the similarities between the Linear & Aardonyx sound which inspired this project.

We welcome the immensely talented Blisstix and the melodically mesmerising 'Reawaken' ep to Sub-Label White, an electronica label from Sub-Label Recordings. 

This four track release is musical exploration of electronic styles; taking influence from everything around him, Blisstix blends together his experiences and emotions, into groove driven soundscapes with rich synth lines, depth, detail and space.

Opening with 'Why does the Universe go through all the bother of Existing?', Blisstix sets out the tone for the release with deep tones, wide space and an infectious groove. 'Jupiter's Moons' continues the theming and sound palette, while developing the exploration of electronica. 

Moving into the second half of the collection, 'Ambivalence' takes us through a more downtempo vibe with a playful use of width and space, with synths dancing in between the broken beats. Closing the ep with 'Redemption', with interchanging piano and synth lines that sit on a groove that is twisted and varied with the precision of a wizard.

aardonyx are a Drum & Bass production duo from the North-West of England. Since they formed in 2015 they have released music on labels such as Atmomatix Records, The Tech Collective, Nu Venture Records and Detached Audio. They have also been included in releases alongside the likes of Nemy, HumaNature and Silence Groove.

The pair have been making music together for over 15 years ago, starting by performing in bands together at college. This is also when they were first introduced to music production and studio recording. Since completing his Ba in Multimedia and Sonic Arts, Ben has worked in commercial studios and teaches music production and recording. During this time Andy has been honing his skills as a Drum & Bass DJ and producer.

More recently they have concentrated on making bass music around 174 bpm. Their wide variety of influences have meant their sound can range from melodic minimal halftime tracks to frantic heavy bass driven stompers. Using vintage synths, analogue hardware and digital workstations, they craft rich sounds and rolling beats as well as exploring abstract sounds.

Having moved away from Manchester they now operate from Plymouth and Chester respectively collaborating remotely and coming together to write music together in Manchester studios as often as possible. The pair are most proud of their 10-track album with its accompanying remix album including the likes of Zed Bias, DJ Ransome (Sy:Ran), Bizzmo (The Inflamers) and Conrad Subs, through Sub-Label Recordings.

aardonyx boast an impressive live set-up with 3 deck mixing and accompanying visuals being triggered and manipulated in real time. Performances of note include warming up for the likes of Monrroe and Satl at Fluid Movement events in the UK. You can hear DJ mixes from aardonyx on their series of podcasts ‘aardonyx Mixtapes‘ showcasing the best up-coming talent and their influences.
