(Biography)
Artificial Arm (Andrew Shaw) grew up listening to all the usual sounds of his generation, but it was the early electro & hip-hop scene that really got him hooked, it sounded exotic and futuristic, and futurism was the thing in the early 80s.

Come the early 90s electro was like a dirty word almost, but Andy became nostalgic for the old school hip hop sound he grew up with, from this point he dug up his old electro tapes, and indeed they sounded fresh! once again. This encouraged him to recreate electro-funk in a more up-to-date form. 

It was more the idea behind electro, as futuristic, synthesized funk, rather than a eighties revival which interested him. He started collecting old equipment to try and get that sound and update on it; after a long process of trail and era, his first release, Armtronic Action EP, came out in 2003.

Andy does, indeed, wear an artificial arm. He believes his disability is something to celebrate and is relevant, as he has had to approach music in a different way, and this has shaped the character of his sound. 

Electro means different things to different generations; nowadays he feels, Andy sees it as a sound characterized by analogue synthesizers and vintage drum machines, but he aims to make soulful, futuristic funk music, with the accent on fun, hence the style electro-funk.

Artificial Arm tracks are written and produced entirely by Andrew Shaw and are original sample free compositions. All synth sounds are programmed by Andy and in some cases even drum sounds are also made on synthesizers. 

Andy is not keen on software, computers and even the internet, for this reason he uses hardware equipment as he likes the ‘machine like’ hands on access, despite their limitations.
