Brownswood Recordings and The Steve Reid Foundation celebrate the life and spirit of one of the world’s greatest jazz drummers – Steve Reid – via a deluxe 12” featuring a brand new interpretation of the classic ‘Lions Of Judah’ by emanative & Ahmed Abdullah backed with a Four Tet re-edit. 

Steve Reid was an amazing drummer with a long and illustrious history that stretched from working with James Brown, Miles Davis and Fela Kuti through to his own Steve Reid Trio and more recently working with Kieran Hebden (Four Tet). He died from throat cancer in the US in April 2010 without the money for treatment that could have saved his life. 

The Steve Reid Foundation was established by Gilles Peterson in memory of his friend. The aims of the foundation are to fundraise on behalf of struggling musicians in need of help and support. All profits from the sale of the ‘Lions Of Judah’ 12” will go to the foundation.

The hero's journey continues. Having left behind your mundane reality in Monomyth: Separation. ‘Initiation’ will take you deep into the unknown, the underworld, the intangible. 

Part 2 of the Monomyth trilogy will take you on a road of trials. This is a favorite phase of the myth- adventure. 

Frenic has created a concept album in the Trip Hop tradition taking influence from a wide selection of source material that includes Hip Hop, Dub, Soul, Funk and Folk. This has all been crafted together using deep beats, scratches, huge dark reverbs and saturated lo fi sounds. 

Based on the book “A Hero with a Thousand Faces”. By Joseph Campbell the trilogy seeks to engage with the concept that all stories have one common theme and by understanding this your own hero's journey can be enlightened.

Flipside is the killer 'Boogaloo Tormenta', a great and relentless piece of music that will get you hooked, strictly for dancers! Introduced by the catching piano line and some great trumpet licks, the song quickly turns into the main vocal hook for ecstatic hip shakin' and wild fidgeting. The track goes mad with a filthy drum and rhythm break in the middle before turning back to the shakin' part....
