Derek Plaslaiko at No Way Back May 29, 2022, night 2 of Return to the Source, a weekend at The Tangent. In his own words: “This was our first in-person NWB since before the pandemic hit. So, just that alone makes the whole night special. It was just SO amazing to have everyone in the same room again, going crazy to all these monster sets that everyone played. When I would look out from the stage, you could just see that *everyone* was moving, sweating and/or screaming for more. They were smiling and laughing and just so happy to be around people again. Specifically *these* people. The ones who come every single year and lose their minds alongside everyone else, without even thinking twice if they're going to go to the party, or not. I think everyone *needed* that party, myself included. There's just nothing else like it. Don't get me wrong, I am grateful we were able to do it over the internet during those lonely times, but there really is no proper substitute. And while this might not be the tightest set I've ever played, I think it got the job done. So, enjoy!! :)”

Valesuchi is a producer who we have kept a close eye on for a while now – the Chilean artist has released some stellar leftfield house and techno, drawing upon Latin influences and channeling a proper DIY sensibility.

We are talking rough drums, dusty pads, grungey acid and everything in between.

Based in Rio De Janeiro we felt now would be a fitting time to feature her in our series after she reached out and sent us her new album – which is as riotous and intriguing as they come. A proper journey through weird soundscapes and analogue dreams.

This mix showcases her versatility as a DJ, a proper masterclass in movement between style, genre and pace. All with a no holds barred undercurrent which keeps things very fresh and very interesting.

If you asked where this mix was recorded, I would say "Detroit" without hesitation and if I thought about it for a bit, I would guess that it was most likely one of Mike's legendary closing sets at No Way Back at Tangent Gallery. The level of care and reverence that go into these sets is very evident in this mix from start to finish. The track selection moves effortlessly from past to future playing with darkness and light, depth and joy, tension and release. It's a remarkable demonstration of taste and skill but also a paean to Mike's personal artistic history that calls to the creative power center that Detroit comprises.
