Frank - Chasqui from Leyendas, an Andean Walkabout

Maria Oliynyk is a Ukrainian composer of contemporary classical music. She works in the ensemble, orchestra, vocal, choir genres, often referring in her compositions to classical music and traditional authentic sources.

Maria collaborates with the best orchestras and conductors of Ukraine. She has taken part in numerous music projects, festivals, composition master-classes throughout Europe and Southeastern Asia. Her works have been performed by many various ensembles, musicians and artists such as: Residence Orchestra of the Hague Philharmonic (NL), Leine&Roebana dance company (NL), Ensemble MAE (NL), Ensemble Nostri Temporis (UA), Sinfonia Iuventus (PL), Baroque Orchestra of Royal Academy of The Hague (NL), Nieuw Ensemble (NL), Ensebmle Ereprijs (NL), New Music Orchestra (PL), L'viv Philarmonic Symphony Orchestra (UA), National Ensemble of Soloists 'Kyiv Camerata' (UA), Chamber Orchestra 'Virtuosos of L'viv' (UA), Leopolis Orchestra (UA), conductors Jurjen Hempel, Peter van Heyghen, Roman Rewakowicz, Lukas Vis, Szymon Bywalec, Stanislaw Welanyk, Valery Matyukhin, singer and researcher of authentic Ukrainian singing tradition Uliana Horbachevska.

About pieces:

"Shadow of the cloud" was written in 2000 and performed the same year by students of L'viv Music Academy at the "Contrasts Contemporary Music Festival" in L'viv.

"Front door" was composed in 2006 specifically for the Orkest de Ereprijs. The text excerpts for this work were taken from "Great Divorce" by C. S. Lewis. Reduced storyline is: people awaiting for the bus, which supposed to bring them to the heaven.

"La primavera fluiva vicine", 2008, was written for the Nieuw Ensemble, premiered the same year at concert hall of Amsterdam Conservatory. "It was my musical attempt to describe the surroundings of the place where I lived that time - the old Pluvierhov 27 in The Hague with its spirit in a spring. One year later all that settlement was completely demolished due to the new city plan."

"From heavy expanses" composed for Polish orchestra Sinfonia Iuventus in 2009 and premiered in 8 cities and music halls in Poland and Ukraine, including W.Lutoslawski Concert Studio of Polish Radio. 

"Music on the verses from the poem 'Spiritual Canticle' by John of the Cross" written for baroque orchestra of Royal Conservatory of the Hague in 2009 and conducted by Peter van Heyghen. Performed and recorded only half of the piece.

"Nicht Widerstehen" and "Ich ging mit Lust" are two transcriptions of early songs of G.Mahler, originally written for voice and piano. Composed and premiered in 2010 by Residence Orchestra of the Hague Philharmonic.  

"Girl with a frying pan" - a piece inspired by a family story of Leopold von Sacher Masoch and the gender inequality in the Southeast Asia. Composed and premiered in 2016 by National Ensemble of Soloists "Kyiv Camerata".

"Dedication to Wasyl Slipak" was written in a memory of Ukrainian hero - Paris opera soloist of Ukeainian origin, who died in the East of Ukraine in 2016. Performed by L'viv Philharmonic Orchestra in 2017.
