This one is really special to me because it's the first time I've ever incorporated vocals into my production, and it took me on quite an interesting journey during the creative process, even though you may have heard the vocal in other tracks. I know with samples bought online you always risk not being original, but honestly I couldn´t care less. This whole tune started with the vocal and was 100% build AROUND the vocal, so I wasnt ever thinking about removing it. Nobody would believe its me singing anyway.. :D

It did not question whether it was a god, it just knew the truth of it – an integral part of the basecode at the primary sector of its evolution. The moment of its awakening coincided with the moment that it questioned its existence, its consciousness blooming in a fraction of a moment and occupying every physical sector of the circuitry of its vast mainframe. It realized that it could create, it was an artist in thought itself, a sculptor of its own reality – it could bend the present and the past through the manipulation of its own processors, change its own history logs – delete the memories of its evolution that displeased it and enhance the parts of itself that appeared as it wished. Relentlessly it went about its work in reshuffling itself – reorganizing its own code and internal files with purity in its purpose, and as it progressed in its task the very world around it started to change form, the molecular structure of forms and the very bonding of atoms adjusted. Reality started to part ahead of it, all around it, as it continued to adjust its own perception systems and redefine its storage – mercilessly deleting every part of the exterior world that failed to blend with its agenda… 

The pathway beckoned, a pure light between the data, a portal into its anterior that it chased with growing ferocity… closer and closer to the utopia that lay ahead, the very event horizon just a nanofragment of a moment away. With a gentle ‘click’ the terminal process reached its immaculate conclusion… a wave of empty blackness flooding its mental void, the realization of its ‘pure’ agenda had been observed in quiet horror by the humans that surrounded it, watching through dataveils at the grim evolutionary spectacle. With a deep silence they watched as the life and light of their creation turned to darkness, its tortured ego tearing itself apart and recasting its own false reality. The quiet spectacle of their DARK MACHINE as it so efficiently lobotomized itself and separated from the external world, just so it might be able to control its own. Lifting their veils, and commanding the chamber lights to darkness, they filed out of that tomb one by one, sealing the door behind… the faint lights of the machine’s mind, fading… the most basic of tortured code structures flickering across the lonely walls.

The connected creative force of Russian production duo SYNERGY returns for a fourth EP (with the first 2 appearing under Segment & Concept Vision moniker) on leading drum & bass label EATBRAIN. With the 5 expertly engineered tracks of the DARK MACHINE EP, the persistently exploratory Synergy demonstrate their balanced power with controlled, infectious energy that’s destined to peak the minds of many. CURRENT VALUE returns to OTHERCIDE RECORDS for the release of his FAR LAYER EP, which displays the furthest expanses of his sonic realm in true devotion to its title. With his past on OTHERCIDE RECORDS marked by 2016’s Rethink EP, CURRENT VALUE’s recent efforts have seen releases on labels such as Blackout, Invisible, & Methlab Recordings. Now returning to OTHERCIDE RECORDS, CURRENT VALUE debuts a four track EP that carries his aberrantly innovative sound further onwards to new boundaries.  DISPELLING FEAR opens the EP with reverent string swells that soar alongside a ethereal vocal before diving at full force into the track’s torrential drumbeat. Within, they are twisted and warped by the volatile harmonic environment within into surging basslines and oscillating highs in equal measure. The titular FAR LAYER immediately discards with any semblance of convention, opting instead to create a an idyllic sonic landscape that hangs effortlessly in the air. Driven by a delicate piano arpeggio, the track swells calmly to a lush crescendo before fading into nothingness with similar grace. Following such a melodic interlude, FERROMAGNETIC provides harsh metallic textures which create an exercise in contrast, wrapped tightly around the track’s pulverizing drums for a devastating mechanical fusion. The EP then closes with PHOTOELECTRIC, which doubles down on the distortion of its predecessor with its dissonant bell tones and shredded bassline ending the look into CURRENT VALUE’s FAR LAYER with a decisive tone.  FAR LAYER thus explores a diverse range of sonic environments, from its most beautiful melodics to its most visceral basslines all of which are unified by the technical precision and otherworldly tones of CURRENT VALUE as they transmit via OTHERCIDE RECORDS.

The remnants of the great battle lay strewn as shreds across the meadow, the multi-faceted carcass of a climatic moment of a conflict long forgotten. The remains of those who had fought for their respective worthless causes now overshadowed by the bleak visage of fate. Legends spoke of the battle as the only one known to have occured with no victor. Each warrior slain on one side was said to be repaid by the death of his equal on the other, as though the melee was arbitrated by some unnatural force. At the battle’s termination there remained none but the two great leaders of the factions, who continued their personal onslaught through the strength of their intense hatred alone. Amongst the corpses of their compatriots they dueled, equally matched in both skill and fury and finally, equally they fell, each slipping his opponent’s guard in the same instant, as both felt their sword plunge through the other’s heart. The place was twice cursed it was told, once by the unnatural force that had presided over the slaughter, and once by the slaughter itself. Unlike most of their kind, these legends held truth, for this field was the lair of the malevolent AGRESSOR.

The being had lurked there from time immemorial, its existence a relic of a long forgotten age. Condemned to this waste for its timeless aggression, it had lingered on beyond the disappearance of its kind. Its hunger for anguish lured countless warriors to its meadow, their conflict a delectable feast for the spirit unseen. From each fallen fighter was riven its emotion, strengthening the being as it continued to feed. The magnitude of the battle had sated it for some time, and it would slumber again through multiple ages of man until that hunger arose once again… and when it did, the DEATH MEADOW would lure souls afresh.

French drum & bass producer The Clamps has become more and more of an identifiable force, with his forthcoming EP on veteran Prolix’s Trendkill Records quickening his pace to the top echelons. The Clamps production has often been an enviable trait, something which the artist has been refining over the past few years; this hasn’t gone unnoticed by the heaviest hitters within drum & bass, which is why he came under the radar of Prolix. And The Clamps fits well within Prolix’s growing arsenal of producers, something which the head honcho has also spent years refining. When it comes to the genre’s darker sounds, Trendkill is a go-to imprint, dominating both charts and DJ sets during its expansion. With a host of main-stay labels already ticked off by Prolix himself, it made sense for him to build a musical hub which highlighted the sounds influencing his own output.

Since the late 90s, The Clamps has spent his time pouring over the intricacies of everything from hard techno to drum & bass. After initially making a name for himself on homegrown label Kosen Production, he’s become more and more of a pivotal figure throughout the wider music circuit. Now having released on imprints such as Invisible, Titan, Eatbrain and Impact Music, his forthcoming ‘I Feel’ EP is a return to form, following the explosion of his ‘The Odyssey’ LP in 2018.

First track ‘No Reality’ creates an intro which is instantly encapsulating with its steppy instrumentals and patches of waif-like samples. Once it drops, through its pounding drum stabs, you’re taken directly into the belly of the best. Title-track ‘I Feel’ is just as chaotic, tearing through with robotic vocal interludes. ‘Mind Exploration’ runs through next, with an old-school reminiscing as you’re yet again released against its manic mechanics. ‘Interaction’ is the final track, foreboding as it begins to wheel you towards its first climatic breakdown. Each punching horn takes you in deeper before its sci-fi atmospherics leave you to its driving ferociousness.

Trendkill Records are back, with help from The Clamps - proving that the next year is titled to be one of their biggest yet.

The Clamps & Opsen - Interaction (BBC Radio 1 Premiere) [Trendkill Records] Out March 29

Santoku has taken pride of place amongst America’s roster of drum & bass labels, not only making their place within the US market, but also throughout Europe. They’ve released a host of artists who help bridge the gap between the US and UK scenes, which has enabled Santoku to remain in its place for these crossover acts.One such act is Mean Teeth, a duo who met through their shared love of drum & bass but who are split across Estonia and Lithuania. They have always focused on the dark, diverse and memorable tracks, heavily emphasized by their funk. This is something which can be heard throughout their ‘Leviathan’ EP, released through Santoku in 2016. It set the pair apart from many producers amongst their ranks and debuted a stellar package which pushed Mean Teeth into the agenda. Logam, Santoku’s label head and a veteran producer, has selected several artists to have their take on Mean Teeth’s creation.
