Earlier this year they headlined the first night of Reggae On The River, and have shared the stage across North America.

Known for his collaborations with AK-Industry, Billy S. has already learned his production skills proper, and developed a trademark style and quality branding this release that is bound to place him center-stage. The opener “Harsh & Soft” seems somehow conceptual, with its combination of sturdy beats with long breaks and deep, experimental atmospheres. “Internal Conflict” and “Eternal Hope” are also fuelled by that contrast of harsh beats and emotional backdrop, before “Reason of Passion” takes the full soundtrack style route. The picture is then completed by NOISJ regular Desolation, who delivers a doomed remix. Be aware this sad motion might have a bad pharmacological interaction with antidepressants!

Though they only released a handful of songs during their two-year lifetime, Black Tambourine has been hugely influential in the world of indie music. Conceived of as an explicitly pop band at a time when such bands were pretty rare in America, Black Tambourine wore their influences on their sleeves: The Jesus & Mary Chain, of course, but also folks like Phil Spector, Smokey Robinson, Love, The Ramones, Shop Assistants, The Pastels, 14 Iced Bears, Orange Juice and the list goes on… The band's dark, dreamy sound was consonant with the shoegaze sounds of the day, but the classic 60s-influenced songwriting gives their tunes a timeless appeal. Formed in 1989 as a side project by members of Whorl and Velocity Girl, they soon recruited their mate Pam Berry as vocalist and released their first song, quixotically an instrumental, on Slumberland's very first release. Two singles followed, along with a pair of compilation contributions. Alas, other obligations became more pressing and the band called it a day in 1991.

Though their recorded output was quite limited, the music has continued to inspire indie, punk and indie-pop bands down the years. As the band's twentieth anniversary arrives, just about any review of or article about a noisy pop band drops their name, and their influence on bands as diverse as Vivian Girls, The Pains of Being Pure At Heart, A Sunny Day In Glasgow, Wavves and Dum Dum Girls is continuing proof of Black Tambourine's legendary status in indie music. Interestingly, it would appear that 2010 is the year for Black Tambourine!

"Black Tambourine" gathers up all of the songs released by Black Tambourine, and handily trumps 1999's "Complete Recordings" reissue by including six previously unreleased tunes. Songs like "Black Car," "We Can't Be Friends" and "Throw Aggi Off The Bridge" are foundation documents of indie-pop and sound as fresh today as when they were recorded twenty years ago. And while classics like "Pack You Up" and "Drown" can stand on their own just fine, the band has taken the rather unexpected step of reuniting to record four new songs exclusively for this compilation. Consisting of two originals and two covers (of songs by Buddy Holly and Suicide), these recordings include all of the original members and are quite true to the Black Tambourine spirit. The songs themselves are tunes that the band played back in the day and never got to record, so these added tracks truly round out the Black Tambourine picture and make this a very special release indeed.

The words "essential" and "seminal" are thrown around a lot when talking about reissues, but this is one case where those adjectives are truly earned. Presented in a deluxe remastered edition, expanded to include four new songs and two early demos, and on 12" vinyl for the first time, Black Tambourine looks slated to be one of the crucial releases of 2010.

The Golden Triangle

Faith No More, who reunited in 2009 for a series of sold out performances and international festivals, is currently recording their first full-length album since 1997’s Album of the Year. 

A limited edition (5000 copies) 7-inch single of the song “Motherfucker” will precede the April 2015 release, available via Record Store Day’s Black Friday event (Nov. 28).  The single will be released digitally on Dec. 9.

"We’ve always shared a chemistry between ourselves that’s unique to this band, but these past few years of touring together have made us aware that we not only play better as a unit, but we like the new stuff we’re coming up with,” explained Faith No More founder and bass player, Bill Gould, who also spoke with Rolling Stone in more detail (http://www.rollingstone.com/music/news/faith-no-more-to-release-first-album-in-18-years-plot-u-s-tour-20140902). “So we’ve decided: we’re going to get busy in 2015…make an album we’re proud of, kick things up a notch, get out there and perform it and maybe even dedicate a little more focus to our fans in the States this time."

The as-of-yet untitled album is being recorded in an Oakland, Calif. studio with Gould handling production.  The release will be the first from Faith No More’s newly formed imprint, Reclamation Recordings, which will be distributed by Ipecac Recordings.

Prior to the new album’s release, Faith No More will headline Australia’s Soundwave Festival in February 2015.  Worldwide tour dates will be announced soon.

"Lies," a track from the now-defunct UK experimental group Bourbonese Qualk, get new life by way of a vinyl release on Mannequin Records with Ancient Methods on edit and remix duties. The release will contain also the original short-time version.

Bourbonese Qualk came into existence in 1979, and put out a stream of confrontational albums through much of the '80s and into the early '90s. After a long pause, their final album, On Uncertainty, came out in 2001, and the band disbanded the next year after the death of guitarist Miles Miles. 

"Lies", a terse, TR 808 driven electro-tinged cut just under two minutes long, originally came out in 1986 on the Preparing For Power LP by way of the group's own label Recloose Organization.

In Death It Ends appearing from nowhere via their YouTube channel “▲TV” on new years eve 2011. The facebook page INDΣΔ†HI†ΣNDϟ appeared to suggest this was some kind of ‘comeback’: A number of albums and cassette releases that appeared to date back as far as 1969. This of course is probably untrue, but many love to play along.

For In Death It Ends is a black mass of contradictions. Combining post-punk guitar and bass with ‘witch house’ iconography. Drum machine beat and loop repetition with drone and euphoric energy. Inappropriately large reverbs with analog echoes, satanic chants and monosynths before casting it all aside and descending into lo-fi oceanic distant murmurings. First creating the micro-genre “Progressive Occult Hipstercore” before discarding it for “Progressive Occult Ghost-Wave” for these things are short lived and there are surely new places to explore.

Six months into their existence, in June 2012 the Berlin based label specialising in cassette tapes Aufnahme und Wiedergabe release In Death It Ends first album, “Forgotten Knowledge“, a limited edition of 100 copies that sell out within two hours of the pre-order announcement. (The album ”Forgotten Knowledge” is due for a reissue on October 12th with pre-orders starting on the 1st October). Some two months later, in August 2012 a self-released CDr “Restorative Art EP” is completed. A slightly more indulgent and downbeat release, limited to just 50 copies. (It sells out within ten minutes of the product release going live). Following on from this, Aufnahme und Wiedergabe announce their first vinyl release [a+w lp001] it will be In Death It Ends 2nd album “Occvlt Machine” scheduled for release in January 2013. In October Aufname und Wiedergabe will re-release the first “Velvet Condom” EP on cassette. It will include a remix of the classic track “Kalter Lippenstift” that has been produced by In Death It Ends. For more details, please click here.

And so to now, TSM are set to release “Manifestations”, a six-track 12″ EP limited edition containing tracks picked by the team at TSM: five of the best from “Forgotten Knowledge” and one track from the “Restorative Art EP“. The launch is scheduled for November 2012. Stay tuned!
