Time Machine

I want to go back in time
to watch that night sky with you,
back when the stars used to shine.
To go on that road trip,
the one we only planned in our minds.
I want to stop by the mountains for a picture
with that old camera we left behind.

I want to go back in time,
watch you from far away,
revive the memories now turning grey.
To stare at the image of myself,
reflected in a stale pond,
at the corner of every look,
disguised in plain sight.

I want to go back in time,
back when your eyes were pure,
back when innocence used to rule,
back when love was true,
back when God was good.

I would stand by you,
guide you.

I have to go back in time
to write you a letter
saying that I love you.

To say that you will suffer,
that loneliness hurts,
and life is cruel.

I need to go back in time
to challenge reality,
to sow new possibilities,
and to break old branches.

I hope to go back in time,
way back,
further back—
the sacrifice of my bonds with life
for a glimpse at the first spark,
the realization of everything and nothingness,
the glare of eternity,
the uneven rhythm of the compass,
the minuscule rip in the fabric.

It all went unnoticed—
the slip of the note,
the mere coincidences,
the drop of ink wasted on the first page of fate.

We would be here, and we would be there.
Close your eyes and don't be scared.
We have defeated death.
It would be then; it shouldn't be rare.
