The Illusion of the Self

The Doon Doon Collective is an electroacoustic ensemble with a distinct Middle Eastern influence. Formed in 2017 at Doon Doon—an off-grid, solar-powered property in the bushland of Northern NSW—the group engages in an intensive collaborative process. Each member brings a musical idea or “bed track” to the session, which becomes the foundation for real-time improvisation. Over a focused 2–3 hour window, the collective develops and completes a track, which is then mixed and mastered on-site. Core members Panos Couros, Siyavash Doostkhah, Amanda King, Greta Kelly, and Michael Taylor combine electronic textures with acoustic instrumentation to produce immersive soundscapes and music.

Amanda’s music combines a rich blend of acoustic instrumentation and eclectic electronic composition. Using a consort of baroque recorders, electric and acoustic 12 string guitars, vocals, synthesised sounds and field recordings, her sound is inspired by a love of nature, harmonics and ambience, with ever evolving, unexpected and ethereal outcomes.
