Two alternative classics from the 80s revisited by Mr. Tambourine, starting with Laurie Anderson's "Blue Lagoon" originally released on her second LP "Mister Heartbreak" in 1984. Don't expect a remix, an edit or an extended dub, as this is a totally new "DJ friendly" interpretation, with added groove, lush production, and featuring, icing on the cake, Theresa Varela's soft and languid voice. Malcolm Mitchell’s Global Warming Records is a self-proclaimed outlet for “discoholics” and multi-cultural geeks. The three projects they’ve released are a collection of songs emanating a cosmic, often tribal, synth heavy analog disco sound. The latest release from Marseille based producer Fred Berthet (aka. DJ STEEF), an old time friend of the label and major artist of the downtempo scene in the South of France, fits a similar mold. The EP, similar to its artwork, is filled with a slow, sexual tension heightened by slow, driving rhythms and hypnotic acid bass lines.

Included in the EP is a remix from Italian balearic duo, Mushrooms Project (Giorgio Giri and Marco Lentano), who have crafted a superbly organic and deeply drugged out mid tempo burner that seems to call on numerous Ibiza sunrises for inspiration. Freaky, mesmerizing synth work take the listener on a trip to acid islands where steady bass permeates through thick fog over glistening percussive sequences. Its driving rhythms make the track feel faster than it is. This is a much appreciated form of trickery in down-tempo productions. Slow burners that make you dance hard are not easy to make.

The EP, and 100 limited edition copies of the naughty cover art illustrated by Ben Hubbard and printed on 420 x 594 mm poster, 250g heavy matte paper is available to purchase via GWR’s Bandcamp page. Bordello A Parigi is an Amsterdam-based record label, online shop, distributor and as of about a year ago, a physical store as well, all founded by one man, Otto Kraanen. Although only opening up the shop last March, Bordello A Parigi has been well apparent on the scene since launching back in 2011. Focusing mainly on italo, wave, disco and related genres, the Dutch imprint has managed to carve itself a reputation as one of the premiere purveyors of the aforementioned styles.

In early 2017, Slovenian photographer turned producer Igor Skafar AKA Ichisan released his debut album “Aperitiv” via Bordello a Parigi. The 11 track LP was, as always, in line with the label’s vision, fusing analog elements into italo, cosmic, wave, disco and acid-inspired jams. Now, a little over a year after the LP’s release, Ichisan is back with four selected reworks from the album. Shedding a lot of the machine-fuelled sounds, he opts for a more organic, instrumental approach with natural drums, guitars, bass, piano and more filling in for the roles previously taken by synthesizers and drum machines. Despite losing a lot of the original instrumentation he manages to keep the feel of the originals intact while focusing on specific instruments for each rework – the harpsichord, rhodes piano, trumpet and piano.

Ichisan serves up a delectable four course offering on his "Aperitiv Selected Reworks" EP and it all starts with the appetizer and A1, Hotel Jama (Harpsichord Version). Taking a more uplifting approach than its album counterpart, soaring arpeggios and jolly harpsichord keys make this a delectable first taste. Diving into the first part of the main course and our premiere for today, the A2, Modri Tunel (Rhodes Version) has an almost blues-y feel to it with twangy guitars and of course the slightly moodier rhodes keys adding a soulful touch. The Todd Terje-esque bassline of the original is replaced with a funky bass guitar on the B1, Kozmetika (Trumpet Version), while the horns take centre stage and add even more flavour to this already decadent meal. Terminal E (Piano Version) is the last track and digestif of this particular EP with the piano melodies here serving as the final sip after a particularly wholesome meal. More than just an Aperitiv, these reworks need to be consumed as a full spread.

A mesmerizing trip from Krautland through Electronic Fields to Hypnotonia‒exploring the textures of haunting melodies, lucious dreamscapes and tribal, dancefloor-ready beats. After their highly acclaimed debut album “Im Klanggarten” (on Bigamo – label of Frank Wiedemann / Âme), this is Fred und Luna’s next fascinating step in their “Elektrokraut/Krautelektro” series.

Who are Fred und Luna?
"Fred und Luna" are two mannequins living in a fashion boutique in Karlsruhe, Germany. They serve as muse for musician, lector, poet and photo/video maker Rainer Buchmüller.
Inspired by his doll friends and his love for German electronic music of the past decades, Rainer Buchmüller under the alias “Fred und Luna” produces his self-created genres Elektrokraut and Krautelektro: both a modern combination of repetitive rhythms, beautiful melodies, electronic soundscapes and elements from the Krautrock era.
Under the name of “Ariston Baton” Rainer Buchmüller also writes and performs sound poems and concrete poetry. On live events and especially on exhibitions Ariston Baton is joining “Fred und Luna” and Rainer Buchmüller’s third identity “Vizudaru Nono”, who is contributing video and photo projections. Together they form the so called “Equipe Nadaphysique”. The next exhibition featuring all three named personalities will take place end of October 2018 at Rockomotives Festival, Vendôme/France.

A brief history of Fred und Luna
Having previously released the EP “Glück auf” on the Scottish label Optimo Music and being remixed by Prins Thomas for the Berlin label Innervisions, the year 2017 saw Fred und Luna feature their debut album “Im Klanggarten” on Frank Wiedemann’s (Âme, Howling) newly-founded label Bigamo Musik.

After the first editions of both the EP and LP being sold out quickly, live shows in Germany, France and England followed as well as remixes for Peter Pardeike (Connaisseur Recordings) and a common release with Trikk on Innervisions, among others.
A team-up with Achim Treu (UFO Hawaii) resulted in several remixes for international musicians.
