It’s all about timing! This release wasn’t on the schedule, but when we’ve received the demos of Igaxx (that we didn’t knew earlier), it made evidence that it should be release on Macadam Mambo as soon as possible. All ingredients were here to make a very special record. The fully analog music produced by the Tokyoite, Shota Ikawa aka Igaxx, immediatly rang a bell to our memory : Irdial Discs, the legendary UK label that we instantly connected with his music, the long housy loops, the deepness of the atmosphere, the tropical jungle sounds was not without remembering Aqua Regia or Pluto to name a few… the EP alternates infectious ambient tunes, hypnotic beats and dance music. It’s the kind of gem that could very quickly become a classic, TIP.

Here's a wonderfully eclectic mix by my friend Tatyana @andrianova, a cosmopolitan with the brightest smile and most excellent taste. 
Tatyana says: "I love unpredictability in music. It turned out that life unpredictability can be extreme and bring endless anxiety and suffering. Wish I could say the world collapsed, but it's still collapsing, and you never know what will happen tomorrow. I dream of the unexpected life moves, which some day will bring the same joy as the sudden musical turns from the tracks included in this mix."

Tatyana Andrianova - Unpredictable Dream (Guest Mix, 2023)

Melting Away is Ultraflex's magnum opus. The final single from their sophomore album 'Infinite Wellness' is a patchwork quilt of references – in the intro Katrín whispers a sentence by the danish poet Tove Ditlevsen, made famous in Norway by singer Kari Bremnes. The first verse is heavily inspired by the short story 'The Husband Stitch' by author Carmen Maria Machado, and the chord progression is borrowed from Usher’s ‘Climax’. Guitarist Bjarni Daníel Þorvaldsson plays a delicious Spanish guitar solo in the song in the style of Enrique Iglesias, and in the end the track ended up as a seamless mashup between Spice Girls's masterpiece '2 Become 1' and Madonna's 'Live To Tell'.

Out of all the songs on the album, Melting Away had the most difficult birth. The song’s working title was 'Power Ballad' and every trick in the book was used to fulfill that name. Ultraflex had such high ambitions for it, it created an almost insurmountable obsession with perfection. About six different versions of the chorus were composed and as a result the structure is quite unconventional.

Eclectic East London-based artist Marek Kubala enjoys experimenting in different styles, including folk, indie-pop, shoegaze and post-punk. Hailing from Huddersfield, Yorkshire, Marek has received critical acclaim over the past 18 months, with releases on Outpost and EMI Publishing (KPM), and featured on BBC Introducing, Mystic Sons, CLOUT, Americana UK, Amazing Radio, amongst others.
Most recently, Marek's alt-pop belter 'Fault Lines' appeared on hit BBC1 comedy show 'Cheaters' (Clerkenwell Films), broadcast in February 2022, sharing the soundtrack with the likes of Metronomy , Jungle, Biig Piig and Holy Fuck.
Marek's debut EP 'Awhile', fused the progressive electronics of Air with the acoustic subtleties of Elliot Smith and Nick Drake. The followup single 'Fault Lines' marked a change in direction, with Marek adopting a more upbeat lo-fi indie sound with quirky electronics thrown in.
'Ramjam' is an energetic punky belter of a track - or more like three separate songs merged into one - with echoes of Ariel Pink and Nirvana. Distorted guitars, electronic drums and Marek's gnarly vocal create a compelling, aggressive momentum which hardly lets up for 2 minutes 40 seconds. Marek says: "The lyrics are actually about a very famous partnership in popular music history, particularly when things weren't so good between the two of them. I was thinking about it a lot at one point. There's a few clues in the lyrics for those in the know".
The EP also contains one original track two club remixes one of out choise 'Ramjam' by Mytron (Multi Culti, Les Yeux Orange, Razor N Tape) lets loose with a characteristic slow-burning psychedelic quirky house mix, with hints of krautrock. Newcomer Telegrafix provides a fun eclectic nu-electroclash remix, with echoes of early Soulwax, the DFA imprint and Donna Summer.

Gli Ornamenti comes in three different versions, which is nice. The U20 Mix is all about that sweet Roland U20 and offers us many of its decorative sounds. 
The Maximal Minimal Mix is the one to go to when you don’t want a lot of different stuff, but what you want you really want a lot of. 
The Ambient Mix is perfect to play while inspecting the grass growing under your apple tree. This is a good 12-inch single for the industrial balearic summers ahead.

Diapason is a Neukoelln based events series created by Ondula and Eva Geist, inspired by obscure music culture, experimental art and experiences of life in suburban communities of outsiders. With Petra Péterffy’s morphic graphics and animations, Diapason has become a much anticipated bi-monthly appointment for the Sameheads audience.

The recent lockdown forced Sameheads to cancel our latest two episodes. Shifting to this hidden virtuality, we want to keep the tradition alive and have reached out to some of our past guests and assembled a Diapason Compilation Tape Vol. 1 featuring new music from some of the artists who inspired us.

Oz Echoes peels away another layer of Australia’s ‘80s DIY hive mind. The Oz Waves successor exposes a deeper circuit of micro-run cassettes, community radio archives and irrationally abandoned studio sessions, as Steele Bonus sequences a 10-track compendium of drone pop, psyche-electronics and agitated tape cut-ups.

From the Sydney cassette network, The Horse He's Sick returns with an industrial car crash, alongside Wrong Kind of Stone Age’s pagan cacophony and primal riddims. M Squared dynamo Patrick Gibson appears in both Height/Dismay and Mr Knott, his respective studio-as-an-instrument collaborations with Dru Jones (Scattered Order) and ex-Slugfucker Gordon Renouf - the former’s worn out apparition hails from an instantly deleted 1981 7”, while Mr Knott entrust one of the compilation’s five previously unreleased tracks.

Matt Mawson represents Brisbane music media-printed matter collective ZIP, as Adelaide’s Three D Radio grants access to their vaults of live-to-air recordings and aspiring demo submissions, rescuing the slap-happy punk-funk of The Frenzied Bricks and Jandy Rainbow’s prodigious beginnings in Les Trois Etrangers and Aeroplane Footsteps. Synchronously in Melbourne, Ash Wednesday (Karen Marks, The Metronomes) leads Modern Jazz’ improvised proto-techno and EBM pioneers Shanghai Au Go-Go home record their sardonic synth-wave.

A cherry-picked cast of unusual suspects, Oz Echoes’ unfamed artist and non-band narratives are detailed by track-by-track liner notes with rarely published archival visions and artwork from Video Synth, prompting further rabbit hole ventures into this golden era of creative risk-taking and instant action.
