Mike Who is a true head. The Sydneysider has warmed rooms for everyone we love, guested on every radio station worth mentioning, and played at every festival in Australia worth losing your mind at. Mike also runs the versatile and vibrant label Planet Trip Records, with releases from Errortica, Midnight Tenderness, and Cory Champion's Borrowed cs. His sets cover a lot of ground, from dollar bin jams to foundation cuts, and other wild UFOs. Tonight, he runs it red with an hour of digital dancehall. Friends, it's a high class show.

Can you feel it? Summer has truly arrived and the heat’s turned up to 11.  Good times are ahead as Palms Trax (we call him Jay) joins us on top form for the 14th episode of the Phonica mix series.

Jay’s been movin’ on up lately with a full schedule of DJ bookings, tight EP’s on Lobster Theremin and Dekmental plus a residency on Berlin Community radio that’s still going strong today. He’s developed a fluid live set that always changes depending on the booking and a real groove behind the decks which has earned him the closing set at P-bar after heavyweights Chez Damier & Gerd Janson. Once upon a time he even worked with us here at Phonica and now he’ll be playing across Europe all summer and flying over to Australia in November. He’s a humble dude and we’re happy people are catching onto his unique sound.

Surrounded by the exuberant oases of liveliness that is Barcelona, JMII developed himself into quite the studio wizard over the years. As a member of several projects, the versatile capabilities of Jami Bassols’ studio output is one that has demanded our full attention. These compelling formulas, containing a well-balanced mixture of lively synth lines, colourful melodies and cosmic house ambiences, come forward out of an extensive hardware set-up and have been kindly rewarded with multiple releases on Hivern Discs, Correspondant and MM Discos. We’ve had a little talk with the Hivern Discs family member and asked him for a contribution to our podcast series, resulting in a blistering mix filled with ambient-infused house and cosmic techno vibes.

Carhartt WIP Radio June 2012: Not Not Fun - Radio Show

Deep Reggae and heavy Dub: this month we present a show by Mark Ernestus with Tikiman on the mic. As the founder of the legendary Berlin based Hard Wax record store he laid the foundation for Berlin's electronic club music scene in 1989. As one half of Basic Channel (aka Maurizio), he gained international fame with a hybrid of Dub and Techno. As part of the duo Rhythm & Sound he refined this signature sound alongside a range of vocalists - most extensively Tikiman aka Paul St. Hilaire. For Carhartt WIP Radio they prepared a mix loaded with rare gems by Reggae legends such as Prince Jazzbo, Nitty Gritty, or Ken Boothe. Tune in and get absorbed by real weigthy bass pleasure!

Carhartt WIP Radio July 2012: Mark Ernestus with Tikiman - Radio Show

It’s been a long, lonely winter and it’s just getting started. To help us all along the way here's a monthly mix series featuring DJs who held it down @ the spot. These selectors hauled their bags of wax into the bar and spun their threads of aural fantasy; we really wanna thank them for setting the scene. 

First mix comes care of resident Cam Hildebrandt, known for his perfectly executed sets of trainspotty dub, boogie, house, and ??? that get rooms glowing in Toronto, NYC, and Londontowne. 

Here he ferries us through a corridor of foggy morning soul and dub shot through with tough boogie and quivering synths, opening the window to clarinet and breakbeat strewn dance floor bliss.  

Pop the hatch and climb on in...
