The Failed States is a creative project based in an aged care facility in the leafy suburb of Wantirna, Melbourne Australia. 

Initially a recreational outlet, allowing residents to express themselves through music, poetry and sitting still, The Failed States has since taken on a life of it own. 

Anguished songs about other residents' grandchildren being too loud at the table tennis table, or laments of lukewarm, semi-set pudding were gradually replaced by powerful pieces about climate change, urban decay, relationship breakdown and stolen dentures.

There are no permanent members of The Failed States, we live on, as age, petty rivalries, and forgetfulness takes us all.

The Failed States tries to perform in the common room on the second Tuesday of every month, after lunch.

I'm a photographer, writer/poet, musician, and teacher. I like nature, animal, reading, listening and playing music, and creepypastas. I love supporting new photographers, writers, and musicians. I came out of musical hibernation in 2017. The resulting time warp of 28 years since 1994 means that I play with a late eighties sound, adding the musical influences of the last 28 years. 
I have three projects in gear: 
J-San: cover versions my Daughter where I record cover versions of some of our favourite songs. This began during lockdowns as a distraction to try and have fun at home. She sings, and I make the music.

@plastic soldiers, a two-piece musical project with a friend from 30 years back based in Melbourne, that records under the name Plastic soldiers.

Logistic Services, a web for musical collaborations that began as a project working on 4-track in the mid-'80s and that I have updated to a web-based version for musical interchange collaboration.
