“Project Greenlight” is the HBO docu-series that follows a newbie director as he makes his first feature film. But the current season has become something more than that. It’s generated a storm of attention and conversation, largely catalyzed by on-screen moments with Effie Brown, who was hired to produce the movie at the center of the TV series. Brown is an experienced movie producer ("Dear White People," "Real Women Have Curves") and an outspoken advocate for diversity in Hollywood, both behind the camera and on-screen. Much of the conflicts in the "Project Greenlight" have stemmed from conversations about diversity and representation. It's no surprise that Hollywood has a lack of female directors. Kyle Buchanan, senior editor of Vulture, points out that studios such as 20th Century Fox, Sony, Paramount, and the Weinstein Company did not have a single film with a female director in 2015. One common excuse is that there aren't many women directors out there. But he's made a list of 100 women directors to prove that there are plenty. He and The Frame's John Horn discuss.
