Good Morning, Sunshine

The Fritz returns to Ragtime Records with a package of jazzy bangers that'll draw the listener back to a bygone age. Close your eyes and you'll be transported into a darkened room, filled with sharply dressed patrons all shrouded in a thick blanket of cigarette smoke as they listen to a jazz ensemble on a stage in the centre of the room. On the edge of the group is an aficionado who sits on a stool, and as he turns you catch his eye and he simply mouths the word... "nice."

'Welcome to Jazz Club' is the A side of Ragtime's latest release, and it features a very nice vocal hook, a sleazy horn lead, and a heavy-weight bassline that'll rattle fillings loose, reawaken long-dormant tinnitus, and annoy the heck out of your neighbours - or maybe all three.
On the AA Side is 'Coming Through Any Time Soon?', a mellow yet glitched-out piano number complete with crisp analogue drums, topped off with a catchy vocal loop, and more than a subtle nod at Golden Era Hip Hop.

What is soul?

And I'm back! This time with a shiny new swing-hop tune released by none other than the legendary Ragtime Records. 

This project came about when we were all locking down from that killer plague just a few years ago. With time on my hands, I learned how to use the MPC I'd been neglecting, listened to a lot of Jazz, and got quite into Film Noir, especially The Big Sleep. All of that boiled down to this release, especially Lemonade. Not that the vocal has anything to do with that, I've just always loved the lyric. 'Lemonade was a popular drink, and it still is' - wise words, if I've ever heard any.

The Fritz, beat maker extraordinaire and all round sample-based music enthusiast from Cornwall, returns to Ragtime Records with a Jazz Hop double A side, Lemonade, and Back in '89. 

Packed with vintage samples from London's 1920s swing scene and iconic Film Noir vocals, Lemonade is a glitchy lo-fi beat that's filled with rare Big Band loops that are blended with authentic Boom-Bap drums, MPC style. 

Next up is Back in '89, a swingy nod to the Golden Era of Hip Hop that's as atmospheric as it is catchy, with a stuttered sample, neck-breaking head-nod rhythm, and a warm low-end that's just right.

Fresh off the back of the double AA release Lemonade, The Fritz returns with the latest installment of his film-noir inspired Jazz Hop series. 

Dripping with atmosphere and intrigue is the title track 'Good Morning, Sunshine', which features a rolling vintage-jazz sample, crisp drums, and a vocal hook from Raymon Chandler's The Big Sleep. Hot on its heels is followed up by 'Oohh!', a unique swung-out groover featuring a very Fritzy-sample from a country-inspired jazz album - yee haw!

I was amazed to learn recently that I'd made enough jazzy beats to fill a whole mixtape, but I have, and here it is! Freshly mixed up for the good ol' guys at Ragtime Records.

Next up in the Harlem Hamfats remix series is Ragtime's favourite Swing Lo Fi producer, The Fritz, as he puts his own magical spin on 'Don't Start No Stuff', dropping 9th December 2025.

Harlem Hamfats, formed in 1936, were known for their own brand of dirty blues and very danceable music, which blended Blues, Dixieland, and Jazz Swing.  Don't Start No Stuff featured a catchy vocal hook and a drunk trumpet line which portrays the feeling of wild nights out in the speakeasys of the day.

The Fritz pays some healthy homage to the original on this one, keeping the main vocal hook of the original and some quality sample-play of the brass and woodwind lines.  When it comes to the rhythm section, The Fritz treats us to the dopest beat and groove, ensuring big time dancing across the room.... no heads with be left un-nodded and no legs will be left un-shaked.
