The King Loves His Country (By Jaime J. Ross)

The King's family has ruled this land for hundreds of years. From one generation to the next...they have loved their country and their country has loved them back.

As the King walks through his kingdom...he is overcome with emotions. He realizes just how much he is connected to this piece of land and it's people. He decides to walk down to the River of Reflection and relive some of the memories of his youth.

The River of Reflection has flowed through the Kingdom for as long as the King can remember. As you sit along the banks and gaze into the water...you are not met with your own "reflection" like in normal rivers...you are met with "reflections/memories" of your past.

As the King looks into the clear blue water, he sees himself as his parents would have seen him years ago. Sword fighting with his brothers...walking along with his limping dog...climbing the ivory draped walls of the towers that he had been forbidden to climb...all of the things that he enjoyed so much back in the day. 

He sees all of the beauty that WAS and still IS his country. He sees the tallest hill that exists in his Kingdom...so many times he's climbed to the top and looked down upon the valley below. He sees the flower filled gardens...every color you can possibly imagine lives there. Their scent intoxicating. He sees the beautiful fairies that fly from one bloom to the next...singing softly as they taste the sweet nectar these flowers provide.

Yes, the Kingdom is a magical place indeed.

As he is just about to turn and leave, the waters of the river turn rough. One last memory is shown to him. It's a day that he has never forgotten. It is the day that he left his home with a "perfect" dog and returned with a limping one. On this day, he and his dog had come upon a cave. Before they were able to enter it, disaster struck and they had to turn back.

When he was "in" the moment he was so very worried about the health of his dog that he didn't see "all" that was going on around him. Looking into the river now...he can see so much more.

Looking into the past...he watches himself as he frees his dog from the trap that has left his leg severely injured. So focused on what he is doing, he doesn't "see" the face that peers at him from behind a tree. It's a face he knows well...it's the face of his friend Elias. Elias is the son of a great swordsman and is already poised to follow in the footsteps of his father. 

What is he doing in the woods and why isn't he helping as the King struggles to free his dog?

As the King watches his young self lift his dog and start to run back home...he sees the faintest of smiles creep over his "friend's" face.

Quite a revelation, indeed...

Time to make his way back to his castle...

The Dark Lord (By Jaime J. Ross)

Rising with the early morning sun, Steward sets off on his journey to meet and thank each of the neighboring Kings for the gifts that they sent to him. He holds the map in his hand that was delivered from an unknown Kingdom...he must go there first. His father was not pleased that he wished to visit this kingdom, but he respected his son's bravery...one day Steward would make a great King!

Before he left, the King gave him a special ring. He told Steward to keep it in his pocket until he "needed" it...he didn't tell him what powers this ring possessed. He just told him to put it on his finger if/when he needed it.

As Steward began to follow the map, he could not understand how no one knew this "other" Kingdom existed...his father and the other Kings have lived their entire lives here...between the five of them...he would have thought that they knew all of their land inside and out...but, this map came from "somewhere" and he was determined to find out where that "somewhere" was...

As he made his way through the Forest of the Unknown, he realized he didn't have much further to go before he made it to the "red X" on the map...impossible!!! No way can an "other Kingdom" exist so close to his without the King knowing. Soon enough he arrived at the spot marked by that "X"...it was an abandoned carnival site. It looked like it's been years since anyone has enjoyed any kind of festivities here. There were ragged tents, broken rickshaws, and tattered costumes left behind by the people who, at one time, must have been quite entertaining. 

The only thing of interest that remained was an old fortune teller booth...behind the glass was a jester...his skin weathered, his clothes torn, his eyes wide open as they must have been for years. Steward made his way to the jester...the jester turned his eyes towards him and gave him the most sinister smile...he's been waiting for him...he smiled a crooked smile at this prince who will, one day, be King...and he said...

Take my hand
If you dare
Come with me
I'll take you there

A world of doom
Cold and stark
Ruled by Victor
The Lord of the Dark

Victor?? His uncle?? The man that was, supposedly, murdered by Rolf??? 

Steward knew he had come to a crossroads...there was no turning back. He needed to do as the jester said...he would, of course, take his hand...but, he would also put his special ring on.

Shadows in the Night (By Jaime J. Ross)

The King was just beginning to wind down after a full day's worth of activities. He welcomed his brother and sisters with a parade through the streets of the Kingdom. He introduced his oldest daughter to the man that, he hopes, will soon be her husband...and he got to enjoy the awesome music performed by his friend Lord d'Up Stabb.

He finished off the evening in the sitting room catching up with Robert, Julietta, and Hermine (his brother and sisters). His brother seemed awfully quiet, but the King didn't find that too hard to believe...after all, he has had a long day.

As the King laid his head upon his pillow, he couldn't help but think that something else was "off" with his brother. Just as he begins to drift off to sleep...it hits him...his limping. Back when they were boys, the King and his brother had been playing with a sword that they should never had touched...a "curse" had been placed on the King that whenever his brother would feel "pain" then he would feel it as well...it was obvious that his brother had been injured...yet the King had felt nothing...this was his last thought as he drifted off to sleep...he hears his brother's voice...is he dreaming? Is he awake? He doesn't know...but he follows the voice...knowing it will lead him to his brother...

The voice leads him deep into the Forest of the Unknown...he continues walking...

He comes to a place where he hears chanting...and he braces himself to see what kind of people live this far out...and why his brother is with them. As the chanting gets louder and louder, he realizes he is almost there...

Standing before him...he sees them. All of them. The "people" whose chanting has led him here. His brother included. But, it's not his "whole" brother...it's just his shadow. They are all just shadows. Where are their bodies? Well, the King KNOWS where his brother's body is...it's sleeping in one of his beds in the castle...he just doesn't understand how this can be?

The King sits down and listens as Robert tells him all about the Undesirable Spirit and how he has stolen their bodies. How they all wish to make their way back to their kingdoms...but they have no idea where their bodies are being kept...or how to get them back...

All of a sudden, Steward appears. Robert has summoned him into this dream as well...Steward knows EXACTLY where their bodies are located. He hands Robert the map that he still carries in his pocket. He tells him to take the map...follow it to the jagged red "X"...find the jester...and enter into the Dark Lord's kingdom...

Robert assembles the shadow people and tells them of this new development. They realize that the Dark Lord will not take kindly to them stealing their bodies back...but, they also realize that it will be hard to "detect" shadows...they will sneak in as shadows and retrieve the bodies that are rightfully theirs. They are ready for a battle...if it comes to that...they are ready to fight!

The shadow people set out with the map. Robert sets out in a different direction...he is heading towards the castle. It's time to wake up "his" body...the Undesirable Spirit has no idea what is coming...

The King lifts his head from his pillow...he sees the Queen sleeping beside him...his limping dog still in the bed with them...and he thinks about the dream he just had...it seemed so very real!

He finds that he cannot get back to sleep...he listens and waits...wondering if, in the morning, his brother will still walk with a limp...

March of the Elephant Warriors (Story by Jaime J. Ross)

The King noticed a black cloud that hung in the sky. It was far off in the East. He kept an eye on it for days...the cloud never seemed to move. It seemed to have found a home over that part of the kingdom...

He assembled his men and headed East...directly towards this huge black cloud. 

They traveled for many days...as they got closer and closer to the cloud the King noticed something very strange. He could "hear" rain falling from this most unusual storm cloud...but he could not "see" anything. How could this be? What kind of rain "falls" as invisible drops? 

When they finally reached the very edge of where the Cloud began the King was in awe. Everything that seemed to "live" under this cloud was giant size. The invisible raindrops seem to have the ability to not only make things grow...they make them grow exponentially. It looks like a landscape made for giants! 

The King and his men look around...they cannot believe their eyes. It is then they notice some hills off in the distance. Ten hills that appear to have some kind of "hut" placed at the top. Something seems "off" about the placement of these hills...

All at once, the "hills" began to move. They are not hills at all...the King watches as he realizes what he is seeing. They are giant elephant warriors!! They start to run towards the King and his men...

The running of these massive warriors seems to shake the entire Kingdom. They do not appreciate trespassers...they chase the King out from under the cloud.

At the edge of the Cloud they abruptly stop. They cannot exist outside of those magical raindrops...so, for now, the King and his men are safe! 

The King catches his breath while thinking about all that he has seen. He realizes that the elephant warriors are just the first line of defense for "something"...there is much more black cloud space beyond what they have seen today. What lives beyond these giant warriors? What other kinds of giant beings have been created under this Cloud?

For now, he must return to the Kingdom...but, he will be back...with a plan to move past these warriors and into the land of the giants...

SEASON 2 - Part Nine- Stay on the Pathway thru the Forest of the Unknown

There is a pathway of stone that leads through the forest just outside of the Kingdom.
Everyone knows to follow the path ... that it will lead you out of the forest. 
But ... there is so much more to the forest to see! So much more beyond the pathway.
Many wish to veer off of this pathway ... few ever dare ... one did ... luckily, he made it back to tell us about it:

"Beyond the pathway of stone lies the most beautiful forest you can ever imagine. 
The trees are lush with foliage ... taller than I've ever seen ... the further I moved into the forest the more beautiful things became.
The sun felt warmer ... the birds seemed to sing sweeter melodies ... it felt like the most magical place that had ever been created. 
I was drawn further and further in ... I had totally lost sight of the stone path that I had been on ... 
I was completely lost in this new world I had found. 
Then, things changed ... I came to a place in the forest where the sun was no longer welcome ... a new coldness enveloped me ... 
and then I heard them ... the chanting ... I hid behind a tree and watched them. 
I am not welcome here ... that I know! I am completely frozen in place ... afraid to even breathe ... 
I shift my feet ... step on a twig ... I hear it snap ... and so do they! 
They turn to look my way ... and I run ... not looking back ... only looking for that stone pathway ... 
wondering if they are looking for it as well ..."

In the middle of the Kingdom stands an ivy draped tower...unremarkable to the naked eye...but, this tower is different from any other tower in the Kingdom. It radiates music...silently.

If you place your hands on the cold stone facade you can "feel" the music..the vibrations...the movements. But you can't hear a thing. Not a single note. Of course, all who enter the tower want to HEAR it...they have heard many stories about how beautiful the music is that this tower creates. But there is only one way to hear it...

There is a staircase that leads you to the top of the tower. Exactly 150 steps to reach the top floor where the music is said to live. But, it takes more than just climbing the steps to reveal the beauty that lies within. At the top of the stairs there is a hallway of 13 doors. Heavy doors. Doors that don't just open because they have to...these doors require great effort. Nothing worth having comes easy.

The story goes that many have opened the first 12 doors. Only a few have been able to open the 13th one. It has been said that only those people who are truly connected to their musical souls can open it and can FINALLY hear the beautiful music that has been silently playing for centuries.

As you listen to this piece...and you come to that final door...I do hope you can open it and that you are embraced with music and not silence...

Within the Kingdom there are an elite group of Swordsmen who have vowed to protect the King and his family.they are on constant watch for any and all outside dangers that may try to penetrate their protective layer and gain access to the castle. They are fiercely loyal to the King.the bond goes way back to the King's grandfather who was said to have created this skillful group. It is said he appointed his very best friend as the leader of the Swordsmen.the one friend who he used to sword fight with yet could never beat. This was the man that he put in charge of protecting the Kingdom.and now, generations later, the same family rules and the same family protects.

The King's children have grown up under the watchful eye of the Swordsmen. They were never far out of their sight.the King could never be too careful.for this was his blood and his legacy. He would die for his children and he would expect the Swordsmen to do the same. However, he could not have anticipated what would happen on the day his eldest daughter, Katharina, set out to take a walk on the Stone Pathway. 

It was a New Year in the Kingdom. Many were still sleeping as they had celebrated into the wee hours of the morning. But Katharina felt like taking a walk and decided to awaken her brother to go with her. She knew she should have also told her father where she was going.but, she was grown and not afraid of much.it's only a short morning walk in the crisp winter air to see and hear what this new year feels like. As she left the castle she nodded as she passed by the Swordsman that had been assigned to watch over her.she knew he would follow her.as he always did.but, he kept some distance and allowed her to "be".he gave her room to breathe. 

As she continued on her way along the pathway with her brother she couldn't help but feel a bit of "unease".something felt "off".she couldn't exactly put her finger on it. Her brother continued to run along in front of her looking back every so often to make sure she was keeping up. She noticed a stone that had been removed from the pathway and needed replacing. She bent over to pick it up and as she stood back up - standing in front of her was Elias.the leader of the Swordsmen.and behind him 10 of his very best men. What was he doing here? He was not assigned to her.he should have been standing guard outside of her father's room. They stood in silence.His mouth said nothing.His eyes said everything. He drew his sword and made his way towards the man who's sword was also drawn to protect Katharina.These were the only words he uttered, "Tell the King that she now belongs to me." 

Elias grabbed Katharina and fled into the Forest of the Unknown with his men. Katharina's swordsman and her brother quickly ran back to the castle to awaken the King.
As Elias and his men ventured further and further into the Forest.they stopped to rest alongside a stream. Katharina has not uttered a single word.still in shock with what all has happened. She knows that her father will move heaven and earth to get her back.she also knows Elias will do the same to keep her. As she stares into her reflection in the water she sees that Elias stands behind her.his face just above hers in the water that is, for now, calm.she thinks to herself."I would have said 'yes'.had he asked for my hand, I would have said 'yes'.now, none of that matters.the die has been cast . She asked for so little. He wanted to give her so much...but "time" seemed to be his enemy. One day turned into the next...and then the next...

He promised to walk with her to the top of the highest hill so she could see where the sun slept at the end of every day...

He promised to bring her a fresh bouquet of flowers every time he passed the field of wildflowers that she loved so much...

He promised to write her a song that belonged only to her...and to play it as often as she wished...

All of these things...he promised to do.

As he sat on the edge of their bed...he noticed a slip of paper that was tucked precariously behind a picture of them as they once were.

He fought back tears as he read her words to him...

"I love you...I have loved you...I will always love you. I know you wished to do many things for me...things that you never got to realize...for that, I am sorry."

He picked up his guitar and he started walking...through the field of wildflowers...all the way to the top of the highest hill...

When he reached the piece of earth that was now his wife's final resting place...he placed the wildflowers upon her grave marker and sat down beside her...he closed his eyes and began to play the song she never got to hear...

In this moment...promises both broken and fulfilled...

The Little Dwarf (by Jaime J. Ross)

There are many caves that exist underneath the kingdom. All of them have been made and are occupied by the dwarfs. They mine for gold and jewels and they share this wealth with the King. They enjoy the lifestyle that the caves provide them. They don't like to go out "among" the people that tower over their small bodies...they prefer to keep to themselves in the caves that they call home. 

There is one dwarf, however, that likes to go out into the kingdom. He's not afraid of the tall people. He actually enjoys weaving in and out of their footsteps without them ever knowing. This dwarf is unique...he is not only "little" which, by definition, a dwarf is...he is the littlest of the little. The smallest dwarf there has ever been. 

He has tiny feet, tiny hands, tiny ears...but, unfortunately, not a tiny nose. His nose is just a bit too big for his face...when he was young many of the other dwarfs would make fun of him for this. It didn't seem fair...why did he have to be the smallest AND have this nose? But, what could he do...this is how he was made.

The little dwarf realized, through the years, that having this nose was not such a bad thing. He could smell things that the other dwarfs could not. When the first flowers would bloom miles and miles away from their cave...he could smell them and run out to pick them before anyone else even knew they existed.

He could also smell even the faintest traces of the "tall people"...if any of them tried to approach the caves without the elder dwarfs knowing...he would know it, and he was quick to tell them. There were never any "surprise visitors" at the caves...not as long as he was around.

One day he was out and about in the kingdom. Enjoying the sunshine and walking towards the River of Reflection. It was one of his favorite places...he loved to relive his favorite memories there. On this day, something felt "off"...the air was thicker...the sounds of the Forest not near as active.

As he made his way to the River he noticed the King and his swordsmen kneeling by the waters' edge. He quickly made his way towards them...hiding underneath the mushrooms that were scattered along the way. 

The King was looking into the River that was no longer blue. It was now a unique shade of green...the exact color of Princess Katharina's eyes. Something was very wrong...

He listened as the King spoke to his men. As the King looked into the river he was no longer greeted with the memories of his past...he was greeted with Katharina's last memory here. He can "see her" looking into the water with Elias standing right behind her. He can sense the exact moment when Katharina realized that Elias hadn't taken her because he loved her...he had taken her as a pawn. To draw the King out...to overthrow the kingdom!! 

The memory ended there...there was no other clue as to where they had gone. The last thing the King saw was the fear in his daughter's eyes that turned the waters green...

He stood there, defeated, they could be anywhere...which way to go?? Time was of the essence...if they take the wrong path they could lose her forever. 

All of the sudden, the King felt something tapping on his foot ... He looked down and saw the smallest dwarf he had ever seen. The little dwarf looked at him with confident eyes...no words were said...their eyes locked...the little dwarf placed his nose in the air and inhaled deeply...he can smell her...the princess...he knows which way they went...he then sets out towards the west...the king and his men close behind...
