From The High Violets release (9/15/21) B-Sides & Rarities. The album highlights the band's musical trajectory from their 1998 beginnings as a youthful, blissed out, starry eyed shoegaze band, to an impeccably produced addition of dreampop. Up Towards is a recently unearthed, never released lo-fi, shimmering recording that captures the young energy of the band and their trademark sonic psychedelia. Lyric story: Inspired by performing, touring, partying after hours. Kaitlyn ni Donovan wrote the lyrics from the perspective of a band manager in a film noir movie trying to keep his band out of trouble; up all night waiting for them while they were doing whatever they did after hours. The exclusiveness of behind-the-scenes: “all the curtains drawn.” Audience & fans pondering the exclusive allure that holds & the “stars” back there. (Little did they know there was just a bowl of chips, some bad salsa from a jar & warm beer). The band betrayed by the manager providing gossip to a columnist.
