I want to capture the military vibe and strong dedication towards the cause that defines Ajihad as a character. It was rather difficult to lay something down, since he doesn't play such a big role for long. As defining part of the Varden, his Theme is also part of the "Hymn of the Free".
I decided to use a part of his theme as the base for Nasuadas theme to really capture the connection of them and the influence Ajihad had over Nasuada's personality. The strong Cello figure will be transformed into Nasuada's Theme.

Ajihad

The idea of this scene is one of the oldest of the project. I slowed down Arya's Theme to really emphasize she's close to dead. The re-harmonization of her theme shows Eragons fascination of her and her radical different situation than the normal circumstances that make up her character. It includes a subtle reference to the empire theme and of course Eragons Theme.

Behind Bars feat. Lira Yin

The first time Jake and I worked next to each other on a dedicated scene. This piece tells the story of Brom and Eragon entering Yazuac, exploring the empty village and seeing the cruelties the Urgals committed. After that the fight starts and Eragon almost gets overwhelmed by them before his wrath is unleashed in a magical explosion.
I found this occasion fitting of firstly introducing the developed version of Eragons Motif. The Version that describes him as a dragon rider and fighter. He isn't the innocent boy from a farm anymore.

Intended Scene: Eragon and Brom entering Yazuac and Eragons first use of magic. First development of Eragon's theme to his "Rider-Theme".

Brisingr

Roran is the closest relative Eragon has, at least the closest in heart. So his whole sound has to be connected to Eragon. The Family is pretty dominant and the whole tone is pretty melancholic. One of Rorans main character traits is his wish to protect. His distaste of violence is fueled by the fact that he is forced to repeatedly use violence to protect the ones he loves. 
The violence changes Roran and so will his theme over time to signify his drag to a darker side of himself.

For My Family

I wanted to display the magnitude and awe-inspiring qualities of the Cathedral of Dras Leona. This is the first piece that features Dras Leona's Theme and the development of it for the cathedral itself. The Organ is basically obligatory for a cathedral, but in this case it really fits the theme.
Since Eragon meets the Ra'zac in the cathedral, their theme is featured, too.

Under stained Glass

Nar Garzhvog is the first Urgal that really gets introduced as a friend and companion. I wanted to capture his wild character with tribal sounds and drums and stayed true to the Erja sound I gave the Urgals. It was important for me to emphasize the "misunderstood" nature of the Urgals and settled for a less brutal theme and tone as one may expect, since I think it's important to acknowledge the wildness of the Urgals as well as their society and the fact that they aren't animals but sentient and loving beings.

Nar Garzhvog

I know this is different from expected for some of you, Murtagh is a difficult character and a fan-favorite for sure. The idea for my Murtagh theme are two complementary string lines. They build a mood when played together. One String line symbolizes Murtagh good core, his desire to be free and to be loved and just to be a decent human being. The other is a representation of Murtagh darker sides. His anger, his striving for power etc. The balance between both lines can be changed to emphasize the current dominant force in him. I really liked the approach of two dedicated motifs to balance against each other. It's a simple solution to a character that is torn between two sides.

Murtagh

Du Weldenvarden got an ambience since it needs to be connected to many different tracks. Due to the magic nature of the forest, I settled for large lush synth pads and a little playful motif, that can easily be references in other tracks.

Wyrda

The music for Agaetí Blödhren should be an one of a kind experience. It is a magical time that fades rapidly when it's over, so I decided for a rather synthetic vibe to emphasize the magic involved. It has a long curve to the climax and then ends abruptly to reflect Eragon's experience with the night.

Agaetí Blödhren

I figured to give the relationship of Katrina and Roran a theme by itself. This theme neither depicts Roran nor Katrina but their relationship alone. It should sound innocent, but strong. It's a bit repetitive, but that's due to the dialogue heavy scene. It should convey a mood rather than tell a story by itself so the mood is usable in more scenes.

Black Wall

Brom is one of the most important characters in the first book and the cycle, so it was a great challenge to fit him a theme. I went for a combination of different things. The first part consists of a quartet, that incorporates one of the themes I gave Brom. 
He has two since he has two roles in the Cycle. His first and apparent role is the Storyteller and Mentor for Eragon, this is the melody that the quartet plays.
His second role is his father role and the fact that he is a rider. The theme representing this part of his personality is much darker and played by a Duduk with a bit distortion to emphasize that he is a broken man since his dragon died.

Intended Scene: Introduction Music of Brom, when he tells Eragon about different things and answers his questions.

Storyteller

Carvahall is one of the most important places in the Cycle. The place itself as well as the people who live there. Therefore, I decided to give Carvahall more of a soundscape of many different melodies instead of one defined melody. Since the Flute is one of my Main Instruments to convey "normal people" I used woodwinds for all melodies. It sounds happy, playful and hopeful, like most people there are.
The Harpsichord is my way to tell the size of the village, the orchestra is chamber size and every instrument is defined. All parts play together to create a feeling of home.
