Guilty pleasures, we all have them. This release updates and fiddles with some serious guilty pleasures that all but the youngest of music fans will recognise. HOD Stash is a series of treasures from a label that shall remain nameless but you’ll no doubt recognise. 

Satin Jackets is the first to revive a track that needs no introduction. ‘Dee Baby’ removes all the elements that date this classic track and replace them with a different calmer soul. 

The last track on the A side see’s ‘Dee Baby’ get the dub treatment and Satin Jackets has created a key laden, familiar, behemoth of nostalgia for you to indulge on. 

On the flip side we have a homage to another 90’s classic from a producer that’s literally exploded over the course of this year ‘Finnebassen’. Remember Me’s seductive bassline and lingering synth’s create a similar low slung mood to the original.

Finally seeing us out we have EJECA’s musical marmite ‘Natal’ which plucks a very familiar sample indeed as he gives pulls off the impossible and crafts a trance guilty pleasure into an addictive, patient house groover peppered with a typically ravey vocal.

14th March 2002. Sound check at Brixton Academy for the first time. An unforgettable moment to see an iconic venue from the stage. Brixton tops all expectations. Old school cinema scale, fantastical carvings, towering doors. Who could have guessed then that we would spend over 16 hours playing on that stage, to more than 70,000 people; that it would become home, and that it would be here where the GA Live experience ended, 8 years later, on the 16th October 2010. 

Memories come so fast they merge and disappear. Fresh off the tour bus and the smell of the catering in the back corridor, looking out of the dressing room window at the VIP queues snaking round the corner, walking those long corridors on the 5th night of a 5 night stand - first name terms with everyone in the building, home from home, Richie Havens eyes closed, sweat pouring as Going Back To My Roots explodes, hugs and highs in the wings listening to the roar as the lights go down, chaotic smoke filled post gig dressing rooms, the dying notes of Superstlyin for the last time…

Don't look back, they say, but leaving the Brixton stage for the last time, that wasn't so easy. Something special had come and gone.

Leaving the venue for the after party, don't remember which year, we were behind a group heading out after the gig, and overheard a phrase that has always stuck. "It's the only time in my life everyone was together".

It's been just over two years since the launch of our podcast series, and after 49 episodes and by our maths about 350,000 beats, we've reached our first milestone. Who better we thought to call upon to record our half century than our good pals at Wolf + Lamb, the mix coming exclusively from Baby Prince, the artist formerly known as Gadi Mizrahi. This special, extended episode was mixed live at Farbfenseher, or as Gadi calls it 'the Marcy of Berlin', a club which encapsulates the vibe of the collective's spiritual home in Brooklyn. Spanning house, hip hop and disco this mix is exactly why we can't get enough of this label, and anyone that has been to one of our Wolf + Lamb parties over the years will definitely recall hearing some of these sexy ass tracks. Thanks to everyone who has contributed to the series so far, and to all you subscribers out there. Here's to the next fifty : )

Todays guestmix is from a man responsible for some of our favourite output over the last few years 'Jacques Renault'. Jacques (Yes its his real name) has a plethora of strings to his bow curating and managing a number of great labels like 'On The Prowl', its offshoot 'OTP Party Breaks', vinyl only 'Goodnight Moon' and the burgeoning 'Let's Play House' which began as a series of parties that flourished into a label he currently runs alongside his partner in crime Nik Mercer. 'Lets Play House' seem to be nailing it at the moment with releases from lots of HOD favourites like 'Dead Rose Music Company', 'Fantastic Man, 'Bicep' and 'Toby Tobias'. Quite the stable. Not happy to rest on his laurels for very long Jacques and Nik recently announced the launch of 'Goodnight Moon' a vinyl only label. We'll be keeping a close eye on this project as it has potential to be a bit special.

Jacques strikes me as a man who doesnt take himself too seriously, which is a rare attribute among producers. This mix is for having fun/getting messy to, simple. From the get go we're smacked in the face with just whats in store. However it's not all candy coated disco like you may expect and Jacques ventures into some deeper territory with the wonderfully complex and polarising 'John Talabot - When The Past Was Present (Pachanga Boys Red Remix)'. You can nearly feel the sweat dripping from the roof to Daniel Avery's "Drone Logic" which is a bit of a monster. There's a few unreleased little gems peppered throughout this mix, including a first peek at the aforementioned 'Goodnight Moon' label with 'Almost - Polyphony' which incidentally is one of the highlights of this mix when paired with 'Emotion II Emotion - Can't Help Myself'. We cornered Jacques and Nik, shined a spotlight in their eyes, waterboarded them and managed to squeeze some info from them.

Discotexas return with Mirror People’s sterling ‘Kaleidoscope’ featuring a limited coloured vinyl release and a brand new remix from the excellent Psychemagik…

Rui Maia AKA Mirror People has been one of the hottest producers to come out of Portugal in recent years with a string of stunning releases on highly respected labels such as Permanent Vacation, Bear Funk, Hands of Time and of course eclectic disco merchants Discotexas. Now he is back on the imprint owned Moullinex and Xinobi with the superb ‘Kaleidoscope’ that will be receiving a vinyl release for the first time and features a brand new mix from Psychemagik.

The release kicks off with the original version of ‘Kaleidoscope’ a bubbling and funk fuelled disco outing that pulls together dramatic keys, a classic disco B-line and a myriad of heart warming melodic elements to create a sumptuous production that is genuinely timeless, quality stuff. The original version is followed by a remix from label boss Xinobi who turns in a superb reworking flush with bright piano stabs and stirring brass parts for an alternative that retains the original character whilst stamping it’s own mark on things.

Next up we have a brand new version of ‘Kaleidoscope’ from highly respected UK production duo Psychemagik. Tom & Danny, the faces behind the name, have been burning bright for some time with a string of outstanding single, remixes and exclusive edits helping them ascend to exhalted heights in recent months. Here they take the original track deliver a delightfully uplifting yet understated melodic mix that plays on arpeggiated synth lines, rich warm bass and shuffling percussion, simply sublime. The EP is closed with Mirror People’s ‘Machines’, a techy and taut production that reflects its title.
