In 1999, most of America's tech hysteria centered around Y2K. But at that same time, a teenager in Canada was messing around in chat rooms, meeting hackers, and learning tricks. At 15, he decided to put his knowledge to the test. To push up against the Internet's limits, and in some places, break them. He managed to pull off something no one had ever seen before.

In June 2014, authorities released information about a massive child pornography ring being conducted in North Carolina.  Four suspects had already been arrested, and the police were asking the public for help finding a fifth suspect. But they didn't need to look very hard -- the suspect was about to turn himself in, almost by accident.

Episode 48: Eight Years

In November of 1988, Robin Woods was sentenced to sixteen years in the notoriously harsh Maryland Correctional Institution. In prison, Robin found himself using a dictionary to work his way through a book for the first time in his life. It was a Mario Puzo novel. While many inmates become highly educated during their incarceration, Robin became such a voracious and careful reader he was able to locate a factual error in Merriam Webster's Collegiate Encyclopedia. He wrote a letter to the encyclopedia's editor, beginning an intricate friendship that changed the lives of both men. Contributor Daniel A. Gross has the story.

This is the first of a three song triptych written in a friend’s cabin upstate.  I took myself on an eight day self created residency with some gear, big speakers, my dog and a commission deadline.  I lost myself there, listened to so much music loud in the house, David Bowie felt like a visitor on the day of the big eclipse.  I listened to old country, and to soul music.  I started a playlist called “For now, Forever” which became a bible over the course of making the record.  I needed a sonic home to rest in when i’d gone too deeply into my own rooms of making.  I read in a camping hammock out by the pond in the woods each day.  I tried to meditate.  There was no such thing as silence.  I was in the company of gods — mortals who make things with their hands and bodies and voices, Immortals who know how to live and die in a harmony like breathing.  The woods spoke to me each night when the bugs turned out, giving over to their desires, just like they should.  I wrote.  I cleansed myself in baptism of song each day.  And each day the wildness I’ve learned to quell made its way up through my belly, into my chest, my throat pressed.  And each day I encountered a form of friendship with all those who had been artists before me, all reaching out to touch this thing we don’t name unless we call it god.  You heard the cry and you want to cry back.   The “friends” are artists and what they’ve made…  it’s just there for us.

Em 2007, Wado, Alvinho Cabral, Marcelo Frota, Adriano Siri, Alvinho Lancellotti, Daniel Medeiros e Marcus Coruja reuniram a singularidade de seus sons e personalidades numa mistura inusitada. E não é que a mistura deu certo? É essa identidade do Fino Coletivo que atrai uma plateia jovem e fiel, que se amplia a cada apresentação da banda. O Fino retribui com sambas, suíngues, loops, levadas, poemas, charme e simpatia, e já coleciona hits e fãs antes mesmo do lançamento do CD. Som e empatia estão ambos muito bem traduzidos no disco de estreia do grupo, onde seus integrantes se revezam nos vocais e viajam em arranjos que se somam, com originalidade, sabedoria e muito bom gosto. As composições são todas próprias ou em parceria com Domenico Lancellotti - que também participa do CD -, Ivor Lancellotti e Totonho, dos Cabra.
